Thanks Gaetan - and I think there are several P words that best describe what a good photographer needs - patience, perseverance, persistence, and of course pluck - |

Mo, Great composition and I like how the texture in the black background supports the texture in the ice. If I were to be really picky (and why not), I would get rid of even the few white spots that show up here and there on the red berries and leaves but more importantly, put a little separation between the ice and the black background with its texture in the area from about 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock (i.e., upper right quadrant around the ice as we look at the image. This way, the edge of the ice orb would be more defined. Just a thought. Ray |

Gaetan, I greatly like the intent but agree with Murphy that the depth of field is insufficient, as well as there is a loss of detail in both the whites and blacks. Still, mushrooms in all their glory are a great topic for photography. Ray |

Judy, I enjoyed the composition as for me it tells a story of a dried flower (meaning dead but still photogenic) and a dead (perhaps) piece of machinery - both have lived their alloted lifespan and are now joined together - one representing biological life and the other nonbiological "life". I would prefer a background other than white (but what kind, I can't tell you) and I am not sure of the placement of the flower vs the machinery as that would take several different images to compare. Regardless, I applaud your attempt at an unusual juxtaposition. |

Dan, a very interesting photo but I admit my eyes tend to wander around the flower because of all of the circular events above it. Maybe if the flower was brighter and/or the background darker, I would find the photo more pleasing. Ray |

Murphy, lovely composition of a lovely set of lillies. We grow several varieties and I do take photos of many of them. I especially like the texture in the background - good job, Ray |

Vincent - those flowers are fuchsia, often seen in hanging baskets. Great color and you did well in bringing out the detail. I agree that would be useful to clone out or darken the bright areas in the background and I suggest cloning out the unopened bud touching the flower on the left as it is distracting because of its position. If it had been farther away from the open flower, than would have been OK as then telling a story of growth and renewal. |
