Judy, I agree with the comments you received - I think I might have gotten rid of the halo but maybe its an intent on your part to help set of the flower from the background. I agree it would look good on canvas especially if you good add some room on the left side. Ray |

Charlie - I appreciate that the stem is at an angle and the seed head is not quite dead center with extra light behind. I note the same problem as my entry last month as at the required image size, we get visible layers rather than a smooth transition for the shades of blue background (yes, I know there is a word for this but I don't recall it). I am curious about the following - might some of the whites in the stem and the parts that. surround the thistle (lets call them prongs) be blown out as I see no texture, I see blue on the inside of some of the prongs - especially the bottom one and the one 2 up from that one (are they actually blue on the inside), and what is the red dot in the center of the seed head? Marge, I agree with the comments you received in terms of the crop and depth of field plus adding some contrast to the flower. I like the thought behind the composition and kudos for getting low and hand holding the camera at that shutter speed - definitely a worthy subject. Ray

Dan - a worthy and fun subject. I agree with minimizing/getting rid of the plant in the back as it is too close to the main subject. Like Judy, I wonder what it looked like after the flower(s) opened. Thanks, Ray |

Murphy - Dahlias are some of my most photographed flowers as we grow a large number of different kinds and I especially appreciate using them as a macro subject given their structures. You did great but I agree with Charlie that are eye is down to the lighter corner part of the back flower so darkening might help avoid that. And while the colors are great, I wonder what it would look like in B&W? Thanks, Ray |

Vincent - I like the image and it makes me want tilt my head back while thinking of how small we are. I was trying to decide if I thought the image would be more impactful if that was the only tree but maybe not as the other trees look like supporting elements and the ones at the lower left and upper right corners especially help with the framing. Good placement for the sun. Would remove the colored light artifacts. Ray |

Thanks Charlie and I appreciate your comment - I was interested is showing as you say "the mass of color" that goes with these small plants and their flowers - that is what catches the eye when you see them but of course you also see them in context so are not overwhelmed as opposed to this image. I will give it a try with what you suggest. Ray |
