Kirsti,
I am told that the saucer shaped cloud is an "Alto Nimbus". There were actually 2, one on top of each other but the top one dissipated while I was composing etc.

Albert,
I really like this shot. I think my only suggestion would be to clone the dark specks out of the lighter sky and to blur 1/3 in from the left, in the clouds, to remove the appearance of extreme grain (for lack of a better description).
To me, the tonality is fine, since it appears there is little direct light anywhere, especially in the shadowed areas.

Kirsti,
While I prefer B&W almost 100% of the time. In this case, I prefer the color. I agree with Ed about the mic and the camerman's head, but I like the rock. It adds to the story in my opinion.

Ed,
I like the look, but if you were going for a high key effect, I think you might have brought up the contrast. As it is though, it looks like a shot that would have been taken during that period. Nicely done.

Trung,
I love it. Only minor suggestion would be crop from the bottom a little more so that path or whatever it is on the left, disappears, leaving only rocks. My eye picked it up and followed out of the shot to the left.

Thanks Ed,
About a year and a half ago I started to put together series on clouds. They have always been what I looked for to add drama to most of my images. I finally realized that they are "cool" enough to be their own subject. The Carolinas get some really interesting formations. I lived near a wooded area and the hawks were always flying around for an easy meal. Including little dogs left outside alone. Several did become lunch! |
