Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
78 Jul 23 Comment I genuinely appreciate everyone's comments on this image this month. Not really getting anywhere I really wanted to with it, I took a completely different turn with it tonight and made into something rather dramatic ... I kept the longer sun reflection, I kept the sun, then really played around with dehazing, point curves, etc. before applying a drastic color change to it... now it looks like perhaps a photo from a youth adventure magazine or a Sci-Fi Magazine from the late '60s or early '70s.

Very much not realistic ... but kind of fun all the same.

78 Jul 23 Reply Thank you Sunil … in B&W, this almost looks as though it could have been a boat crossing through a moonlight reflection! Jul 19th
78 Jul 23 Reply Wow! This offers a very different take and it is incredible… thank you Jim! Jul 19th
78 Jul 23 Reply Thank you for the feedback Robert! Your comment has caused me to ponder the length of the sun's reflection further. Jul 19th
78 Jul 23 Reply Thank you Brenda. I agree that it doesn't need to be realistic … at the same time, going too "artificial" hugely detracts for me … I'm beginning to realize that I enjoy a little bit of post editing but I also really appreciate keeping things as original as possible.

The tools we have at our disposal now are amazing. I also fell in love with photography before any of this stuff existed and the limitations of "fixing" things were done by using pencils to mark-up negatives combined with burning and dodging in the darkroom. I'm feeling almost a bit of melancholy lately when thinking about those times vs. the adaptive AI and everything that can be done now.

78 Jul 23 Comment Ed,

I too am in the camp that really likes your processed image. The placement of the tree within the frame and the diagonal of the mountain slop are great, as Ken already mentioned. Additionally, I like how the branches of the tree that are almost even with the slope horizon are on the same general angle as the slope.

Because I love sepia tone so much, conversion to monotone with a touch of sepia might also look great with this one.

78 Jul 23 Comment Robert, this is a beautiful flower!

Using the same basic idea that Jim used, with a slightly different twist. I cropped the original photo a bit differently using both a tighter crop and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

I removed the third (lowest) flower bloom and also removed a couple of the green leaves to help make the focus more on the blooms. I darkened the background, then played around with brightness, sharpness, highlights and shadows to make the blooms pop a little more. Also removed the spider and some of the spider web.

Apologies for the lack of "clean" removal where I removed items. I am limited to using Lightroom Mobile on my iPad this week while I travel.

78 Jul 23 Comment Ken,

I am also of the belief that this is a great image and I especially like your chosen crop.

It might benefit from a slight increase in brightness to help the colors pop a little more.

This one also looks great as monotone, either pure B&W or with a touch of sepia.

78 Jul 23 Comment Really interesting image, Sunil! When I look at the original image, I feel a little sad that the wonderful "patina" of the half-cocked rear truck/trailer roll-up door is lost and also that the wonderment of all of the car parts. After trying to play around with it some, however, I can find no way of salvaging some of those interesting (to me) things.

I love the colors, and the enhancements to the richness and saturation of the colors… and Jim's crop is nice with the extra room for the Eagle.

78 Jul 23 Comment Jim: Your salvage of this challenging image is fantastic. I agree with Ed that the right-hand crop side could be opened up just a touch to include the far right-hand grey column, showing all three of those columns in the image. I also feel like it might benefit from the absolute slight clockwise rotations and/or the use of LightRoom's automatic geometry corrections (if they work as desired). While very minute, the mortar/granite/stone window sills of the second story are just visible in the top of the photo, casting an appearance that it isn't completely horizontal. Jul 18th
78 Jul 23 Comment What a fantastic base image already Brenda!

I have very little to offer on this image beyond what has already been done … Ken's crop and Jim's colorization of the eggs, combined, are fantastic… best wishes for much success in Nature with this image!
