36 Apr 23 Comment I think the darker sky adds details in the clouds and gives a lot of atmosphere. I like it Apr 19th
36 Apr 23 Comment Thanks ! My question is:
Given the nature of the place- people 24/7 is it a legitimate fix to clone / darken / remove the distraction points ?

36 Apr 23 Comment This is a good night scene. The exposure and shutter are spot on.The white balance too. My thought is a bit less sky even at the cost of more foreground. I think it will add details and interest. Sorry for missing out on your pic last month. Apr 9th
36 Apr 23 Comment Diane, this is a pic for a book or a calendar. I love the cloud at the peak. Try reducing a bit the blue slider in LR. It will darken the sky and pop out the cloud. Sorry for missing out on your pic last month. Apr 9th
36 Apr 23 Comment I like the symmetry of the reflection
and the exposure too. It can become tricky sometimes. I think the experiment was very successful.

36 Apr 23 Comment Hi Arne, sorry I missed out on your pic last month, I was out. Thanks for the good feed back Apr 9th
36 Apr 23 Comment I would agree that the ghosting would look better on B&W however, this is secondary to my choice of having the monument in color. Mind as well I prepare for my pic meaning: if I set it up as color it will not be a B&W and vise versa. As for leaning right- Im not standing the axis line of the monument so there is a parallax distortion on the horizontal axis Apr 8th
36 Apr 23 Comment yes. the "ghost" effect is a result of % from Exposure time.
Meaning: if the people were caught in place 100% of the exposure time they will be completely opaque. The less time they get are in the exposure the more transparent they become. So if they were to get a 2% exposure time in their place - they will be complete transparent and invisible.
Makes sense?

36 Apr 23 Reply picky is good! thank you. Actually there is never picky enough. :) Apr 8th
36 Apr 23 Reply Thx. In my view a centered subject is causing eyes to become fixated hence a static composition. So I try to implement 2 principles:
1. Reduce elements that are not strictly needed for telling the story ( my comment to you on your pic)
2. Offset from the center ( I'll post next month a centered subject, the Lincoln memorial).

36 Apr 23 Comment You mean the 2 people sitting on the right? Apr 5th
36 Apr 23 Comment The Feeling of solitude goes very well with the vertical lines and the patterns. The darkness adds to the atmosphere. For me this is a good picture.

36 Apr 23 Comment Amazing. Next time ill join you Apr 3rd
36 Apr 23 Comment Larry, the softness of the light is WOW. In my view this picture is made of 2 pictures. For one reason: the brightness on the right draws the eye making me give less attention to the left - which is a good picture of its own. I like them both I like them separately more Apr 2nd
36 Apr 23 Comment This is majestic. You captured the texture and the contrast very nicely. Is that a crop ? by the way, where is Palouse? Apr 2nd

83 Apr 23 Comment I like the portrait. The shallow depth of field brings your friend out. In particular I like the grain. It adds texture and atmosphere. One note - I usually do not follow the group after the second half of the month.

83 Apr 23 Comment Hi Mark, thank you for honest opinion. It is appreciated. when I studied photography, the question "what makes a good photograph?" was a key question. There are many opinions and answers but one seems to be coming up again and again: a good picture is a picture that causes a reaction. In other words, the viewer does not stay indifferent to the picture and from that perspective - Thank you.
As for the approach - I do agree the whole is greater than the sum of all parts. its not the elements separately but all together combined.

83 Apr 23 Reply Thanks Jon, Rule of 500: 500/focal length = Max time in seconds without star trails. So 500/19mm lens = 26seconds. Given the exposure was 1 sec => No star trails. Therefore, you are correct - Jet / Heli. Probably a jet because of the high altitude. Yes the driftwood helps, but darkening the shadow of the pier would have received too much attention and would compete with the Pier / water. Glad you liked it. Apr 16th
83 Apr 23 Comment This is a good picture. It tells the story of the city's life. exposure, technical etc all - good. The soft light and low contrast enhances it greatly. Apr 14th
83 Apr 23 Comment Hi Margaret,
It seems that you and I share similar thoughts or at least see the same things in pictures (just an observation, looking at our comments in the last months. Interesting). Anyway, yes the pier was closed as it was unstable; and yes the biggest struggle in the exposure was getting the details in the railing. You see, I believe (and trained) that a photographer must resolve everything in the camera rather than computer / dark room. So instead of taking many pictures, I'll take 4 (like here) over 3 hr. But I get the details in the railing. Then editing is very minimal and takes takes 3-5 min.

83 Apr 23 Comment It's easy to judge a pic from my living room. If you will be there again our thoughts will help you re think it.
Following your Japanese though perhaps reduce details, or clarity.

83 Apr 23 Reply yea but it was there and i like it. :) Apr 8th
83 Apr 23 Comment It was a windy night and the breeze pushed the clouds inland fairly fast Apr 5th
83 Apr 23 Comment I see here 3 different pictures. But the main one is on the top left. Or if you want - no need for the darker bottom. For me it is all about the texture and contrast. Apr 2nd
83 Apr 23 Comment It is very little times that I find a vertical picture fit. This is defiantly one of these times. I like the tonal range. I like the Triangle at the bottom. I like the proportions and the seagull. Did I say I like it ? Apr 2nd
83 Apr 23 Comment It tells the story. Is that a crop ?
