Hi Butch, visiting from group 71. I really like this image. It perfectly conveys the conceptual idea of "Old West horse ride". You capture the horse in the foreground with all legs up, this is special. I don't really care of the "saguaro", actually, I think it is part of the landscape and is not intrusive at all. I look also at your work in other groups. It looks like you have many interests.
Kind regards

This is an excellent bird portrait. I think your black and white version has more character and the negative white space accentuated the expression of the osprey. Well done Jennie

Thank you Bruce for looking and commenting my image. I have given a try the way you suggest and is definitively an option. Doing so it will loose the context but still would be a strong image.
Thank you

Apologize for my mistake, I guess this is caused by the distortion of details.

Thank you Jennie for looking at this image and finding the time to comment. About the head of the statue, I agree with you as in my response to Isaac. At the end I think the subject of the image are the two girls and not the statue.

Isaac, thank you for taking the time to look at my image and comment. About your questions? I have to act fast because the area was very crowded and did not have time to compose too much. To me the girls are the subject. I am not sure if the feet would have change anything in this image. One of my photography buddy is obsessed by including the feet in street photography. I showed him several pictures from great street photographers showing subject in which the feet were not included. He always argues that it doesn't matter if the image is from Cartier Bresson, is still missing the feet....
Bottom line, do you think that having the feet would make this image better?
Regarding the head of the statue, I originally thought to crop the image even further and just show the bottom part of the statue and the background of modern buildings. At the end however, I think not seeing the head may just add a little of mystery as Jennie said. You can play with the image and keep horizontal and crop more of the statue if you want to try, but I like more this vertical one.
PS: also I don't have any image of this girls with the all statue... |

Bruce, as Isaac said this is a sharp image capturing an instant of everyday life. I think what it works in this image is that the man' eyes are clearly attracted by something while her companion is "stealing" some of the ice cream.
All together a very nice image.

Bev, when I first look at the image, I thought something did go wrong with the uploading or low resolution image. I would applaud you for trying something different, but I think the final result is not appealing. It doesn't have the effect of seeing through a glass, but it look just a over sharpened image as the result of too much post processing. More, the face of the men has that strong shadow the keep attracting my eye.
kind regards

Isaac, I think what it makes this image is the expression of the vendor. Without it, this would not that strong. The image is sharp, and the vendor is place perfectly. All together it is an excellent image.

Hi Butch, thank you for visiting and commenting on my image. I apologize for my late reply, but it looks like we don't get anymore reminders when a new comment is posted. So, I see this only now. I much appreciate your kind words and I like your work on my image. I think you have cropped to 2:3 proportion and work on creating more contrast. I have to admit I am pretty strict on my rules about cropping. I use 4:3 for all my vertical and 2:3 for all my horizontal. You can call this a cropping OCD. More, I think with your crop the second tower get very close to border of the image. About increasing contrast (particularly where the fog is) I guess is a question of personal taste. I honestly prefer my post process just because I loved the soft calming atmosphere I felt when I was there.
Once again thank you for your visit and have a great week

Thank you Mike and Tom for your nice comment. I agree that the two images shows how the same image can conveys different feeling in monochrome or in color. I still prefer the monochrome but maybe I have other images of this section in the past with better colors.
Kind regards

John, I think this is a sharp image capturing well the beautiful colors of the fall. However, I disagree with Tom and Mike regarding composition. I don't really know what this image is about. The green tree is cut, the reflections are nice but they got lost. The right side of the image is dark and flat and the left is bright with strong contrast. Sorry to be a voice out of the chorus but to me this image does not work.

Hi Mike, I agree with Tom this is an excellent documentary image. The action is telling the story and from the point of view of composition the sheep herd in the background creates a triangular shape that makes the image strong and provides context.
well done

Dennis this image capture well this iconic waterfall. Differently from Tom, I think the small sky spot is creating troubles because it is very bright and the eye goes there.Maybe you have another image with e little bit more of sky or you can try to crop out it. The image is sharp and your choice of shutter speed still still provide some dynamism.

Tom this is a very interesting image with a good composition. The repetitive pattern of the rail and the two trees that appear almost like they hold the stair. I like the final results with the touch of HDR.
best wishes
