71 Jan 25 Reply Spring, one of the things I have learned reading and following photographers is that each photo should answer "what is the subject?" In this case in my opinion the ice in the foreground is "distracting" from the beauty of the main object. I think you can have 2 photos in your original. One with the ice and the other with mountain. I have been working for the last few years trying to simplify my photos. I now often takes times to study the subject and figure out what I want. Sometimes it does work, sometimes (most of the times) it doesn't.

71 Jan 25 Comment Nigel, this is a wonderful scenery and I can see the reason you choose to present it in a panorama crop. In a scenery like this I think the "scenery" is the focal point and in my humble opinion the image does not need a "focal point of attention". Saying that maybe a tighten crop would (2:3) eliminating some of the brown uninteresting hill on the left and some of the right would have the eye to focus on the beauty of the valley. From the point of view of composition you have two triangular shapes (the ferns in foreground) and the hills slope with the majority of the scenery. These are always strong elements. The cloudy sky and the brown dominant color in the foreground create an excellent color contrast adding interest.

71 Jan 25 Comment Mike, an excellent bird portrait. I agree with Tom's comment and I think his image has improved your already excellent presentation.

71 Jan 25 Comment Spring, this is very nice capture of this iconic view. The ice on the trees and the light create a special atmosphere. I think you managed well the branches of the tree on the left almost creating a frame in the frame. I believe as others that the foreground is dark. After reviewing it I took the liberty to crop your image in the landscape format. The reason for doing this is that in my opinion the foreground does not add much. In the image I attached you still have the water but also two triangular shapes that represents strong compositional elements. At the end the subject of the image is winter and the Half Dome. I also darkened a little the very bright spot between the branches. Let me know what do you think.

71 Jan 25 Comment Srijan I echo comments from the other about this image. First is a beautiful example of intimate landscape. I think your composition and choice of shutter speed it is perfect to convey an atmospheric, fairy tale image. I also believe the green is a little overdone and agree with Nigel that the orange speck is creating some distraction. I think the white balance is also a little off. If you look at the sky has some unnatural tint.

71 Jan 25 Comment Tom, this is an excellent image and I agree it works well in monochrome. Can't say if this is better of the color because you did not show the color one... (-: However, since I am not a fan of HDR images, I am sure I would prefer this one. To be picky I think you have the horizon in the middle of the image and the lighthouse is almost in the middle. While this is barely a problem since the lighthouse is clearly the subject, I think the image could be stronger by having more sky and less foreground. I also found the very bright plants on the right a little distracting. Maybe you can consider to dark them a little to make less evident. I took the liberty to crop your image a little to show what I think. Let me know what do you think

71 Jan 25 Reply Tom, it is wonderful that you and other people volunteer to clean up the mess. But as you mention is a never ending story, unless we start to change our habits. Yes this area is wonderful and I know the Florida Keys are the same and so many other areas.

Have a great day!

71 Jan 25 Reply Hi Mike, unfortunately I think that few hands and trash bags would not help much other of being a temporary solution. The problem of plastic in the ocean is much more complicated. Even if they clean this, it will be the same in a short time because the ocean is full and there is no political willingness to reduce production.
Regardless thank you very much for your kind feedback on my image.

All the best and Happy New Year!

92 Jan 25 Comment Hi Keisha, this image tells a story (or more of one story) and is technically perfect. I am amazed that with f/1.8 everything is so sharp. Well done

92 Jan 25 Comment Marianne, I echo Lou's comments regarding the rain adding some interest to the story. I personally think this would be a stronger image if you had an image from the front instead of the back. Is difficulty to figure out this is "Snoopy".

92 Jan 25 Reply thank you Lou for finding the time to comment on my image. Homeless people are raising everywhere for reasons that often we try to ignore. While there I talked to some volunteers that help them to survive during the winter time and they said most of them are "recent homeless" because they lost their jobs or their pension was not enough to pay for rentals that in some cases raise up to 100%. In US alone the number of homeless raised by 18% in 2024.

92 Jan 25 Comment Lou this is an excellent story telling image. I like the composition. The pave lines lead to the image. There is a triangular empty spaces around the subjects almost to highlight that their protest is going to be lost in the indifference.
All together a great image

92 Jan 25 Comment HI Chuck this is a great "street photo" with a feeling of the "60s". The monochrome choice is just right and all elements for an excellent image are included (composition, story telling, exposure and sharpness).

well done
