32 Nov 24 Comment Stephen,

this is a very nice image is definitively better in monochrome of the color version. To me the flag doesn't create any distraction, and on the contrary I believe it creates some balance to the building on the left.

71 Nov 24 Comment John this is a nice capture of this popular photographic spot. I agree with what the other said. Since we are not in the "travel" division here is possible to clone out the cranes that create a lot of distraction. The final image of Tom is better. However, differently from Tom, I personally think there is too much foreground. Those trees create almost a barrier to the observer. The half church that Tom cropped out is indeed something you could have included fully because is part of this view and churches in Florence as in many other Italian cities are a characteristic element of the landscape.

71 Nov 24 Comment Thank you John for sharing your thought. I think taking a skyline image as the one you attach as an example, and capturing a night landscape is quiet different. My image was not intended to convey a dramatic effect. I strongly believe Mother Nature did a great job to let me to see the beauty of that landscape and I wanted simply to capture that moment. My image is intended to convey a feeling of serendipity and calmness, not a the feeling of drama. At the end I guess is a question of personal taste, as everything in life.

Have a great day

71 Nov 24 Comment Tom, I have been there to photograph this mill a couple of times. You are right that there are thousands of images of this mill, but I have to say few have the "green frame". Most of the people go there during the fall for taking pictures of it with the foliage. This image conveys a feeling of calmness and the mill looks like part of the landscape. I think technically this is just a great image. Well done!

71 Nov 24 Comment Mike and Tom, thank you very much for your kind comments. I am very happy you like this image. Tom, no I did not know about the comet. Actually was fun that when I arrived at the location people were asking me if I was there too for the comet and I said, "well not originally but now yes...".

have a great weekend

92 Nov 24 Comment Hi Susan, very nice capture of this scenery. I agree with the others that black and white is just right for this image. I would not crop to the knees because to me the legs are part of their traditional clothes. I am honestly not bothered too much from cropping the feets. Indeed, if you look at the work of many street photographers is more focus on the message and not on the "perfect" composition.

92 Nov 24 Comment Hi Keisha,
this is a great image of street life. You capture the idea of happiness in this image. She is clearly in love with him and happy. The image tells a wonderful story. I also believe the monochrome version is more appealing. The sign and the green scooter become part of the image and their colors does not create distraction. The same for the red line painted on the sidewalk.

92 Nov 24 Comment Marianne, I can't add more of what the other have already say. It is a great social photo and I believe the expression of the guy in the foreground is making the image special. The composition is great. It is a crowded space but all people have clear definition and there is no overlap of subjects.

Wonderful work

92 Nov 24 Comment Lou, this is very nice street scenery. I like the way you cropped the image and agree it helps to make the story clearer. However, I like the original one more for the soft focus of the people and the objects in the background. In the final one, I think you may have oversharpen the image.

92 Nov 24 Comment Chuck this is an image that definitively demonstrates connection between the child and the mother. I think the black and white is the version to go with this one. The very saturated yellow of the color version create a lot of distraction and the expression of the boy almost disappear. And to me that espression is what makes this image.

92 Nov 24 Reply Hi Chuck,

thank you for your compliments and for sharing your thoughts about cropping. I have been back and forward regarding cropping this image. At the end I decided for a tighter crop to emphasize the connection between the drummer and the dancer. I also wanted to take away the sewer in the foreground that to me create some distraction. Maybe a midway would work too.
