Hi John,
thank you again for sharing your opinion and thoughts. I like this last version of the image too. However, in my opinion the landscape format works better. With the portrait format there is more energy and tension. The landscape format provide a better picture of the that particular moment I was living and feeling. I guess is a question of personal taste.
Best wishes

Thank you for your welcome John. I honestly like one of my version better for few reasons. First I think the landscape format is working better ( personal taste), second your post processing make this image really one of those extremely pushed HDR images and, while I know they are very popular they are too me too fake. Regarding the valley being inn the middle I purposely worked in the field for not placing it in the middle ma to create some leading lines. So I agree with your statement regarding your post processing doesn't work (at least to me).
In the second version I have uploaded I have already used a graduate filter to increase the contrast and make the sky a little bit more alive. I think pushing this farther won't make this my image anymore.
Thank you again for looking at it and taking the time to comment on it

Thank you Mike and Tom, for sharing your thoughts. I am attaching a revised version of the image. I have applied a graduate filter to emphasize the sky more and also applied a selective burn brush on the brightest area. Looking forward to get your thoughts.

Beautiful landscape photo Nigel. I like the way the tree frame the village and the beautiful color of the fall. I like the way Tom used the de haze filter. I hope you don't mind I pick up your picture and also use the de-haze, increase clarity a little bit and saturation to make the autumn color to pop up. Let me know what you think. Best wishes

Mike this is a very interesting image that tells a story. I like the removal of the distracting elements of the background done by Tom. I also think since this image is about the story a monochrome conversion would be great. I see that you took this image with the 100-600mm lens (a lens I also have and is great). I am impressed by the sharpness of the sheep and the dog. However, she shepherd looks like a little out of focus or with some motion blur. I am curious what aperture did you use?
Regardless is a very nice image |

Beautiful image Theresa, I also did not know about the moonbows. I love the way the light of the moonbow cross in diagonal the image and also the choice of the shutter speed. I agree the two red mushrooms create some distraction. I also think the big shadow on the right side of the image creates some distraction and maybe you can consider to crop the image a little to take that out while maintaining the composition. |

Good morning, I just joined the group. I really like your photo Tom. The light is great and create a great mood. The sun position is the icing on the cake. Looking carefully, I see the point raised from Nigel and I think this may be evident also in the dead tree main body to the left where there is a area that is very bright compare to what is around. I personally believe the sky, together with the dead tree is the focus of the image and find the beach less interesting. In this case I usually try to go low and point the camera towards the sky. Just my two cents thought |
