Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
58 Nov 22 Comment Thank you all, the hardest part was trying to get the entire cadet and work around a very large crowd on that side of the service. Nov 17th
58 Nov 22 Comment I kept coming back to this image , and still have the idea that although the light is distracting it adds to the story of the subject, ie , he must have been at his "trade for a long time and adapted to the lighting from a bare light which even of to the side would still provide a distraction to most who had to work under those conditions. However to most looking at the image it would be a distraction and take away from the carver. The facial colour in the original adds to the expression on carvers face and along with the overall colours of the image go well for a "street type "image. I also saw as have we all, a number of street portriats. This image as is and with cropping fits well into that idea. I did try a number of versions and settled on the monochrome as I beleive it give it a timeless look and did bring out some details in the jacket. I eliminated the clutter behind on the left leaving just the carver , his work space , with just a hint of the area on the right side. I also toned down the white block , which I do not believe takes away from the resulting portrait This image posted by Sally is well done. Nov 13th
58 Nov 22 Reply have look closer never noticed feet, in the crop. Nov 11th
58 Nov 22 Comment This image captures a moment in the life of a city street well, and the relationship between the main subjects, the musician and the two kids he is interacting with. I have cropped both side to focus attention on the main subjects the look of the one passer-by. In my mind this image lends itself to monochrome as to some extent the colors take away from the overall effect. I have cropped both sides and adjusted highlights on people as best as I could. 58 Nov 22 Reply That really made a difference , thank you Nov 11th
58 Nov 22 Reply I looked at that and did try my crop, but I left the pole and banner for the reason you suggested. the women in the black dress would have be half cropped out, so I looked again and it would be similar to the one woman on the right side. Although it would have perhaps stood out more due to the eye being drawn to the banner and pole which would be left as they are important and provide context to the image Nov 11th
58 Nov 22 Comment This is neat, I had to zoom it a bit as I though he was standing on the metal cross bar of the goal, which with skates would in itself be no small feat. Even at that it would still be difficult on whatever the covering is. I agree with the cropping as noted in the earlier comment although perhaps I would have cropped it a bit more and eliminated the flowers. If this comment is permitted the only improvement I could think of is not within your control would make the image more meaningfull, and that would be he should be wearing a Leaf's Jersey. As a Canadian I think that change would show that, yes the Leaf's can actually do something on skates and with a hockey stick. Nov 11th
58 Nov 22 Comment This image captures the principle subject and her activity and talent well, not only the flying knives but her questionable footing. In addition looking at the image one can see a good cross section of people. Those taking cell pictures, those whose expression suggest amazement at what they are seeing, one girl a reflection of the impact of cell phones, paying attention to the "machine" and not the world around her, as well as one young women in the back whose facial expression suggests I'm bored, why am I here. I think that cutting back on the two highlight of the glasses worn by the one girl would allow more focus on the secondary subjects, the people that are part of the overall scene, and not distract from the principle subject Nov 11th
58 Nov 22 Comment I like this image, It is a moment in time that will never be repeated. While I am trying to learn to complete composition in Camera with a photo save for some minor cropping, is complete with no removal of objects (i have a long way to go) , I believe the removal of the frame or fabric coming from left to right and forming an V with one of the rays of light leads the eye away from the effect of the very busy Scene and the people that make it. A slight lighting of the shadows (people) on the left would remove the seemingly dehumanizing black "blob" (am at a loss for a better word)
Difficult lighting, interesting image and location. As I said I like it.

58 Nov 22 Comment This is a nice portriat of a person undertaking an activity in a public setting. Without knowing the environment the image was made in I think that perhaps a bit more of the surrounding area may have added context to the image beyond just the person and snake. Of course that may have also had the opposite effect and created a distraction. From your description of the circumstances at the time I think the use of the 300mm lens was appropriate for the area. A bit more highlight on the existing highlight in the eyes would I think help to add to the title not afraid. Darking the light brown above the hat and below her hair on the left side would in my mind remove a very minor distraction. Well done. Nov 11th
