Photoshop can do this too with a levels/curves layer. I have found however Lightroom to be much more accessible, integrated and user friendly for these types of modification. Of course Photoshop does many things Lightroom cannot. |

Your original being in black and white highlights the singular accomplishment of the post-processing. A lot of clean up work is apparent when comparing the before and after images. The cohesion in composition achieved through the framing and modified proportions, shadows removed, leading lines, and the on-target accents in tone, contrast and sharpness is exceptional. |

Very fine toning and great composition. It's a very agreeable image. Nothing to add |

Very nice, subtle use of generative AI. I had never tried it until now. I used your mask and added samurai armor - the image is not included here. Your adaptation is better. |

Peter, Like Jim I was inspired by some of the detail in your image, particularly the construction worker in the bottom left corner. Coming off of a long road trip with a couple of photography exhibits in San Francisco, it was noticeable that most of the images are black and white, of course... (!) but almost all involve people. I present a few crops I made yesterday from your picture. These were extensively retouched with Lightroom adjustments, intended to enhance separation and composition. The poles create these regular geometric areas that are easy to select and work with the brush accessory. I also used the luminosity adjustment to attenuate the brightness of the dominant diagonal poles in the middle of the crops. In case you are not acutely aware of it, I would like to share with you that there is a curve associated with every Lightroom adjustment and that by using it experimentally with multiple points and judiciously observing the effect produced by moving them you can obtain very good quality toning. I'm sure Darlene knows this since she indicates the use of curves in the descriptions of her images. |

Thank you kindly. The success of this image was mostly showing up, the excellent zookeepers and the perfect location for these great models.
This was a well organized tour with a photographer who works with the zoo from whom I learned a lot. The orientation was perfect, almost backlit but with rim light.
Even when shooting in a barrel things can go wrong. I had good luck too.
Not bringing the hood - left in our bus - was a controversial suggestion. There was lots of haze, maybe a timing issue. During the shooting the sun was initially beneath the horizon and then flooded over it harshly with high contrast before I began getting any decent images. No doubt sunset might have been better lighting, but in the end it worked out perfectly.
Here is the wider shot that Darlene wanted to see. |
