83 Apr 23 Comment Lance, it seems that all that needs to be said about this photo has been said. To me, if it were possible, this picture would be great in 3D. That way one would see the true depth of the scene recorded in this photo. I really like the photo Margaret demonstrated in her search of Japanese aesthetics. The tree branching in the B&W photo almost resembles the arteries of a heart in a human body by somehow making the branches of the tree really stand out from the rest of the vegetation involved in the scene. 83 Apr 23 Comment I really like this picture, because, as several have already said, it demonstrates the design and busyness of an urban intersection. I love the fact that is demonstrating not just a grid like intersection, but a geometrically diverse intersection with curves and acute cross street angles which makes it much more interesting. The contrasts between the building and the pavement, and the lines of the street and pavement also add interest to the scene causing the eye to seek out the intricacies of traffic flow in a large busy city. 83 Apr 23 Comment Jon, I like the potential of this scene, but to me the centering of the lighthouse just doesn't feel good to me. I don't have any suggestions though, because to move the lighthouse more to the left exposes more of the large tree which would want to share dominance with the LH, and moving it to the right would eliminate the tree completely, and I don't think that would improve the scene either. It makes me wonder what the photo might have looked like if you had been able to move more to your left with the tree as more of the background instead of sharing the layout. Of course, not having been there, I am only second guessing, not a great point of criticism on my part.

I agree with Lance on the bird, it hasn't helped the photo. I also wonder, as did Margaret, what a little more drama in the clouds would do to the photo.

83 Apr 23 Comment Adi, I really hated this photo, because I didn't take it. In reality, there was not much I didn't like about this photo, from the aging structure of this dinosaur of a pier, to the striations in the clouds, to the softness of the ocean, to the driftwood in the sand, which to me seems to add a bit of an anchor to the whole scene, I think it is a great photo.

I have a tendency to not look at all the components of a photo before I pass judgement on it, and that may be a flaw in my own photography. I think I have found it too easy to look at all the details that we are told we should pay attention to before we release the shutter, and allow those things to alter my first impression, when in reality, it is that first impression that causes most of us to either love, hate or show indifference toward a photo.

83 Apr 23 Comment Debasish, I too like the concept. I won't waste your time saying what Lance and Margaret have already said except to agree with their assessment. Reminds me of my rock climbing days. Apr 16th
