Debasish, if photos are suppose to move people emotionally, this one has done it for me. Reminded me of my motorcycling years. I would love to get on two wheels and do this twisty in both directions, what a kick! I love both the exposure and the contrast, if there is one thing I would have done it would have been to try to remove the bush right in front of the view. I also think that Ali's suggestion of limiting the right side has some merit it creates greater focus on the subject. All in all great shot! |

Mike, it has taken me a while to really digest your photo. I remember being there many years ago, it's a beautiful beach, and like so many other places like this it is hard to capture the awesome, raw, natural beauty of the place. That being said, I do like the picture. I too would have removed the people simply because I wouldn't want anything or body to take away from the natural beauty of the place. I also would have brightened the the picture just enough to create the impression of a brighter time of day. I don't know if it's more exposure or more contrast, but I do like the version you posted on the 8th at 15:09:39; that is a wonderful photo. |

Lance, I love reading your critiques of our photos, but I have one request, with your knowledge and experiences, which I don't have, it would be helpful if you could show or provide links to things that you reference in your comments (and I guess this is really meant for everyone commenting). For example, in the above comment for Margaret's latest photo you mentioned "Steve McCurry's "infamous" photo." I googled that comment and found some of McCurry's photos, but nothing that points to an "infamous" photo. As I am sure most of us are who love photography, are very much visual learners, having the photo available would help me understand your comment.
Thanks, Mark |

Yes, I see what you are saying. I am still learning to use LR, and haven't figured out yet how to mask something that is not the sky, or the background, or the subject. I'm sure there must be a way, or perhaps I just need to transfer to PS to get it done. Thanks again for your comments. |

Adi, thank you very much for your comment. I am so happy I joined this group, looking at this photo in color I thought it was a nice photo, but in B&W it took me by surprise. Just in the short time I've been in this group has given me a new appreciation of this type of photography, I now find myself in LR a lot at least taking a look at photos with a whole different eye. Thanks for your help and the help of the whole group for the comments you make and the awareness it creates in me. |

Margaret, my eyes certainly are not what they use to be, but when I blow up the picture the perimeter of the building looks as almost sharp to me as the rock. Admitting that at f13 the depth of field may not have cover the total distance, but the ability to decipher the wings and tail of the bird nearest the building indicates to me that the focus is pretty close. I think if I had used a greater f-stop I would have had a greater df, that is, however, probably the price paid by shooting on the run from a tour boat. Your comment is something for me to note in the future, and thank you for calling my attention to it. |

One of the great things about having only 1/2 of the sand dollar is tha it leave the imagination to wonder. |

Thank you Jon. I liked this picture from the start in color, but took a much stronger liking to it when I converted it to B&W. |

Lance, really interesting shot. If it weren't for the leaf, at first glance I might have thought it a shot from the Hubble. When I looked ar it again as a whole I saw the ghost peering over the edge of the lead with only the tip of its nose exposed to the light. I love photos that conjure up imaginative images, they are fun to look at. I keep wondering what the skeleton like hand coming out of the right side of the leaf is holding. Nice impressionistic photo, wouldn't chang a thing. |

Margaret, beautiful portrait. I would change a thing. It has a rather secretive look at a beautiful woman about it. |

Overall I like the photo, but it does leave wondering what the rest of the sand dollar looked like. Just wondering what made you indulged only the portion of the sand dollar that you did. Was that all there was of the sand dollar, would the design in the center have been too distracting for your goal, etc.? |

Adi, overall I like the photo. As usual for me, I hesitate to criticize the artist's development of a picture or in this case a photo thoughtfully compose. I don't necessarily think that the "legs" added any emotion or sensation to the photo for me. It has a tendency to make me feel as though the photography either didn't care to remove a distraction or didn't know how to remove it, which in your case was most certainly not the issue.
Moat of all, I appreciate the courage with which you proceed, unafraid to try something new or just different. |
