I agree with your comment that the buildings on the right are a distraction and like you're end result. However, the Monadnock building is historically significant because it is one of the tallest structural masonry buildings ever built circa 1880/90. So as a comparison, I left the Sears Tower, one of the tallest buildings ever built in the image on the right. Creatively, I like your edits, but may or may not use them based on the history. Thanks again for your insight. Take care. |

Pete,
I agree, very difficult to capture smoke and even more difficult presenting it. I definitely prefer the monochrome version but had trouble 'seeing' the face until Bunny and Emil made their adjustments. While Emil's version is more realistic, I like the visual effect Bunny created. Mark |

Wow,I really love the composition. It's a nice balance between negative space, swirling lines and the solid flowers. |

Bunny,
I like the way you cropped the image removing the distracting foreground and presented it with the textured borders. I also feel you did a great job capturing the image.
However, I tend to crop images until it hurts and would probably take more off the right side, actually eliminating the first set of windows completely. It would offset the door in the back wall and eliminate the bright windows, which are a bit distracting. See attached. (I cropped a bit off the top too just to see how it looked) Mark |

Emil,
I'm not sure what to add. The simplicity of the image along with the geometry is the magic. You've eliminated all of the distractions by dropping out the background and cropping and turning the water into a mirror is beautiful. it's definitely one I could live with too! |

LuAnn, It's a great image and the bears expression is what pushes it over the top. My main suggestion would be to crop it tighter to get rid of the spot behind and below the bear's butt. :) It's distracting, but don't crop too tight. I've attached my suggestion. Also dropped the hightlights and exposure of the background, took the highlights down in the tree in front of the bear and added some clarity to the bears face in an effort to really pull the views eyes into the face and reduce distractions. Wouldn't qualify as a "Nature" photo though. Re memory cards, my camera has two and I always save the same image to both cards, then copy them to my laptop with a back up to an external drive and I try to avoid reusing cards during a trip. It's overkill but that way I effectively have 4 copies of each image and can separate them in different pieces of lugged for the trip home. |

Israel, I like the texture of the sky you used but agree that it's a bit distracting. You might adjust it in lightroom so it's not quite as obvious. But I love the boarder treatment. to me it adds a sense of antiquity that the subject deserves.
Also, I missed commenting on your image last month. If you send me your email at mark@braunsOriginals.com, I'll send a slightly edited version of your last image with comments.
Take care, stay safe and keep up the great work. Mark |
