Thanks Shaikh....I will have to work on my backgrounds and follow your excellent directions. I am planning on going to the conference in Spokane. Hope to see you there! |

Nice sharp image. Could the sharpening produce the purple outline on the ear and the shoulder? I like the extreme crop but would prefer a different background. I find that little bit of sky (?) a distraction.

Hi Shaikh, My first impression was that of a squirrel emerging out of the tree. Funny how each of us visualizes an abstraction. You did a good job of blurring the background. Would you share your process? I have a a couple of images that I would like to work on. Your suggestions may be easier than substituting a new sky. Very good focus and lighting. |

Hi John, I like this image-good find. Your post processing work is great and would be a challenge for me. The truck is nicely placed in the frame, the lighting and focus is good. My suggestions would be to remove the little bit of gray something on the level of the truck bed. I like the poster edge effect on all parts of the picture with the exception of the background foliage. To my eye it is too intense; in sharpness and color. |

Hi Jesse, Proud photographer! This is a coincidence, recently I attended a photo work-shop. One of the speakers emphasized putting a vignette around all images you enter in competitions. He said it doesn't have to be very dark, can be almost invisible but the effect produces better scores. Nicely focused with a pleasing blue sky. Good work! |

Hi Debra, Interesting photo not one that others would capture. I'm finding that judges choose images such as this; creative, out of the ordinary images. Although technical aspects are important I think creativity is the main factor. Consider entering! The only suggestion I can offer is to straighten the image. To my eye the right side of the image is a little closer to the top of the frame. |

Hi Pat, The focus on the central part of the lily is perfect! Can we call it "selective" focus? The color combinations are inviting to the eye. If cropped a little less, as Murphy suggested, or cropped tighter, I think this image would have even more interest. Many possibilities. |

I love the colors and the composition. The flower is pretty much centered but the bee is off center making for a nice composition. Good catch; timing is everything. I do agree with the previous comments regarding focus. I will be taking Murphy's advice about using the paintbrush on backgrounds. |

Hi Murphy, Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right. As I said, this image was taken several years ago. I don't remember if I used a tripod. Now days I use a small aperture when photographing flowers so they are sharp. Most times between f16 and f22 and on a tripod using live view. I hope that indicates my flower pictures have improved.
You mentioned to Dan to use a paint brush to clean up a background. I have never used the brush tool. Would you mind giving me an explanation? |

Very fine focus, Rosangela. I really like the color combination. Having the purple petal extending out to the left is a bonus. It completely throws out the "rule" not to have an image dead center in the frame. I tend to agree with the above comment regarding the blurred shadows in the frame. |

Another finely focus and interesting image. Your posts with specimen identification are an education. The thin inside stroke around the edges is complimentary not only in color but gives a finished look to the entire presentation. |

Hi Murphy, I enjoy you image just as is. All though a light vignette might be appropriate. I recently attended a week of Photoshop learning where the instructor highly emphasized adding a vignette to most images entered in competition. Fine focus, composition, lighting and interest are all present. Colors are complementary as well. |
