Well, I think your description was meant for a different photo, but it's intriguing! :)
I like the eye contact with the bird, it really engages you. Nice job with the processing removing the branch and adding more contrast and richness to the image.
My one suggestion would be on the crop, to take more off the left side. Although the bird is looking at you, it's clearly moving to the right, so having less space on the left and more on the right (in the end image) would be more appropriate.
Very nice image. |

Oh this is just so cute! I love the pose you caught, and the fast shutter gives you that nice spray of water drops that just adds to the action. Well done. |

Cool to catch the apparent interaction, and the bird is in a very nice pose with a lovely background.
Unfortunately I think the connection between the 2 is tainted by the amount of space between them, while they are both crammed up against the frame edges. It feels more like 2 different subjects, than any connection. A lot more space all around would help with that. If you don't have more space, I'd be inclined to make this just about the bird and leave the bee out. You lose the story but I believe you'd have a stronger image. My 2 cents... |

Reflections make such nice images, especially when they're as well defined as this one. I like your crop which emphasizes it and the bird's gaze, although I would probably go with a little bit more space left and right if it were mine (but I prefer somewhat looser crops).
The colors are beautiful in your edited version. I do agree with Larry about bringing the exposure down on the bird a wee bit (I had to search to find another adjective to use..).
Overall, a lovely shot of a handsome bird. I keep thinking mirror mirror on the wall... |

Yes, better light does give much better details. I notice it even more when the feathers are dark. But for the conditions, and what the birds were doing, this is a nice enough result. I like the crop and amount of space around the bird, the trailing water behind the feet, and the open beak. |

This bird was on my target list when I went to Colombia, and although I managed a few snapshots I didn't get any nice behavior like this. I knew the bird was unique but didn't know about the digestive system, very cool.
You did a nice job with the post processing on this, I had to look to see where you did some removal, it is not apparent (which is good). Well done image. |

I love the composition with the owl peering out of the bottom of the hole. The amount of tree framing the hole is good, it feels balanced overall. I like that you've left it on the darkish side overall, fitting for an owl to be in somewhat dim light. The one thing I would try is warming up the white balance to minimize the blue cast to the owl. Of course we equate that blue tone with dim light and cold, so it's a matter of taste in the end. |

Snowys can have some expressive feathers and you sure captured that here with the raised crest. Your processed image has very nice color and "punch", I can see why you said the contrast was important. I might try cropping a bit more off the right to eliminate the brighter area in the middle of the frame. Since the bird's head is pointed to the left, it would be ok to have less room on the right, compositionally.
You captured some nice character here. |

I missed you by a couple of days, was there earlier in the week! I'm sure you found that Bernardo was better this year in terms of # of birds. But the opportunity for the takeoff in water like this wasn't there.
This is a great pose and the background is very pleasing. Good amount of space on all sides for the action. Beautiful light as well.
To me the bird is slightly soft. Maybe just needs a bit of output sharpening for this image size.
This is a really beautiful shot. |

They are such cool birds. On my last Costa Rica trip, we photographed them at night. They have the most haunting, mournful call.
Very cool to catch one with the young. It's amazing that they nest on a stump like this and the chicks stay put. I like your framing on this image, minimizing all the distractions in the background. Well done.
Happy holidays to you too. |
