A story in planning, execution and dedication - with a terrific photo as the reward for the effort. Wow. Not something I'm going to be trying soon- and we don't even have the mozzies to contend with here in AZ. |

I think this is a very interesting, graphic image. Turning it to b&w was a good choice, given the haziness and low contrast of the original. The one big lighter tree on the left is key as a focal point.
I'll make a presentation suggestion here, which is add a thin gray (or white) border so that the edge of the frame is clear. |

What a gorgeous shot of this "phantom". I too really like that you've got a hint of the background, giving some context and a sense of place. Well done on your processing work.
My one suggestion has nothing to do with the photo but rather presentation for this forum- a thin gray border around the image would help define the edges on this dark background. I'm having trouble telling where the edge is. I do this for images that're going to be projected as well. |

Oh so cute! This is so sweet with the parent and chick posing well for you. You've done a nice job bringing out colors in the processing.
My one nit is that this needs a bit of CW rotation- the birds and grasses are all tipped to the left. |

That's some great feather detail you've captured! I love that you can see the food on the tongue, and your crop emphasizes that. I also like the way you've used the shape of the stems to balance the composition and fill the frame. So for what your objective was, you've accomplished it!
I know that high-key images with white backgrounds aren't everyone's taste, but I've found I prefer that when confronted with a bleak sky like this. It's a more artistic rather than natural interpretation, for sure. Here's what I would do if this was my capture: |

What a great opportunity you had with an elusive subject. The soft light is quite nice here allowing you to see details and reducing the overall contrast of the scene. I like what you did with the post-processing work.
My only suggestion echoes Larry's comment about the crop, I'd like to see some rock under the hind edge of the body so it's obvious it's behind the rock and not just clipped in the photo. I like the space you've left on the other sides of the image. |

Thank you for the inputs about the sky/ background color. I tend to like high key so that's why I went that direction, but it is for sure not everyone's taste. I'll give it another go trying to preserve some of the color as an alternative. |

Wow, what a stunning image. Not only great behavior, but the composition is terrific too. Great lines and angles between the perch and the birds and the prey. Color is pretty striking as well. Congrats on the well deserved honor on this image. |

I love the head-on pose, especially given the bright pink breeding lores. Great detail in all those ruffled up feathers too. This just has so much personality and appeal!
I don't mind the right hand branch- it acts a bit as a frame on that side. Also helps give some context for the perch that the Egret is standing on. |

I like the behavior captured- makes it a nice, dynamic image. Your choice to crop to vertical is good given the general posture of the subject. You've also brought out some good color and contrast. That turquoise eye just shines. Well done.
