67 Jul 24 Comment I know I'm late to the party but I'll make the color vote unanimous. The glacial-fed water just has such pretty hues. I love the patterns in the water. I also like how the patterns of the clouds on the left echo the patterns (layers) in the mountain. Nice job on the processing to bring out the details.
Beautiful image of a beautiful spot.

67 Jul 24 Comment This is a really nice image capturing her lapping up the water with a good reflection. I like the tight crop focusing just on the important part of the story. Well done executing on your vision! Jul 27th
67 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Michael, I do like your crop choice. I chose a bit more f/stop because the chicks were moving around the parent, and I wanted to get them sharp when they weren't in the same focal plane. But I could've done with slower shutter speed to bring down that ISO. Jul 27th
67 Jul 24 Reply Yeah, that blade should go! This was in complete shade so the fuzz wasn't being backlit by sunlight. I think it might be some light bouncing up from the water?? Jul 27th
67 Jul 24 Reply Good point on the reflection and my height. I guess I wasn't focusing on it so much because the water was so grungy that the reflection wasn't all that great. Jul 27th
67 Jul 24 Reply Since this was in total shade, I'm not sure if a polarizer would've helped- doesn't there have to be some light? I could darken that highlight down in post. I did notice it at the time and moved to the side to eliminate it for later shots. The entire setting is water and reflections so there really isn't a sharper background to be had. Jul 27th
67 Jul 24 Comment Awww, I'll take cute any day! Such wonderfully fuzzy detail. I like the crop of the nest, giving enough base for the chicks but without messy distraction of the big nest.
Interesting that the 2 are so evenly matched, that is a bit unusual. That shows well in both images.

67 Jul 24 Comment Really nice pose and interesting capture of this bird eating salad! Good job on the exposure- not blowing the whites :)
I actually like the brighter processing of your first post, it's just more vibrant.
I get that you want the tight crop to show the food but I'm not crazy about either of them. My personal taste tends to not be so tight, but that's me. My crop shown below- but then the salad is almost lost, and I couldn't figure out how to make it stand out more. So in the end it's what you like!
I see these guys out hunting in the mornings somewhat regularly here in AZ as well, although much more common to see them roosting by that hour.

67 Jul 24 Comment The pose and "expression" of the frog are what makes this picture for me. I wouldn't complain if the egret were turned a bit, but it does work as is for me. I also like that the egret is in breeding plumage, that orange helps soften it so to speak and breaks up the large white shape.
From a processing standpoint, I think that Topaz may have introduced some weird sharpening artifacts in the vegetation that I find distracting. I often back off of the sharpening, or really restrict the areas it can work on, to avoid this kind of thing.

91 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Marge, I also like square crops. I might not go quite this tight but I like the idea a lot. Jul 27th
91 Jul 24 Comment Nice catch for both you and the Osprey! Great pose, nice placement in the frame, and nice light and color overall. I tend to like space so like this as is, but I would also play with a crop as Jerry suggested- just not too tight so it has space to be flying in.
I think we'd all like to capture that moment of an Osprey fishing! Somehow it always seems to happen in a spot that the bird's obscured, or just too far away. Not to mention just predicting it and being ready...

91 Jul 24 Comment I like the moment captured with the crab, and the nice reflection. I like your crop which fits the subject well. I'll also agree with Bruce's version.
I do like a lot about your #2 image but agree the viewing angle is not ideal.

91 Jul 24 Comment Yeah that is one full house - er nest! How cool that they lined up so well for you, that really makes the shot.
I would try brightening up the faces just a little bit, to bring them out of the shadows.
I like the composition as is because it shows the location. But I also like a crop from the left to emphasize the line of heads, I'd just leave the top and bottom as is to keep the breathing room.
Super cute and fun shot, lucky to have something like this at home!

91 Jul 24 Comment What a beautiful image of this owl. Getting it on an open perch- and a diagonal no less- is such a great find. Having that train go by and add the pink gives it a very unusual touch that works for me. I think the fact that the light is even and soft is a big factor in that working though, with the overall pastel quality to the image.
I find the balance between the owl and the trunk to be pleasing. Given the direction of the owl's gaze, I wouldn't want it any closer to the left edge of the frame. If it was looking to the right, it might be a different matter.

91 Jul 24 Comment Very nice pose captured with the outstretched wings and tail, and one foot just touching down. The whites look good too, which can be a challenge with these guys in bright sun. Good idea to "fix" the head and nice work on it, I'd not have guessed it looking at the image. Jul 27th
91 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Bruce- the catchlight is something I should pay more attention to! Jul 4th
