I will try the crop suggestion, thanks. But the white spots are the falling feathers from the preening activity, so part of the story which is why I left them. |

Love the composition with the staggered trees- yes they do look like the shape of a mountain! B&W was a good choice here for sure. I actually like the tonality in the original where the trees are brighter and the background is a bit darker. I also like just the bit of a play of light across the ground in the foreground, it gives a bit more interest.
Anyway you found a really nice, unique image in a spot that's been photographed a LOT. Good job. |

Turnabout is fair play?? Kind of fun to see the thief being the victim this time :)
I like the poses of the 2 birds, with the eagle's tail all spread out and the fish so prominent. There's nice detail in both birds and the light is nice as well. The added canvas is a good choice.
A fun story-telling shot! |

Nice to capture an infrequent visitor like this. Such a pretty setting with the rice stalk. I can see why you cropped it like this to include the seeds. I'd have gone the other way though, putting the bird higher in the frame. Although it would reduce the seeds, it also would eliminate that brighter area in the background. And to me, birds just usually need to be higher in the frame.
Your other "bathing beauty" shot is also very nice, even simpler image.

Too bad that "plan A" didn't work, but you came up with a fabulous "plan B". I really like the tree and sawgrass foreground- very different from other Milky Way shots I've seen. Thanks for the explanation of how you did the lighting for that. Very inspiring all around. |

What a sweet behavior capture! The moment you caught is just wonderful, and your crop choice works well. The exposure and sharpness look spot on.
I hope you're having some good success with the nestlings now too.
Great image! |

So I actually have heard of Bisti before, being in AZ. My camera club has done field trips there although I've not gone. This really is a place made for B&W, good choice to go that direction.
I love the 2 big round formations leading you in to the scene. Those shapes get repeated going back and to the right. Lots of interesting shapes and textures to enjoy here.
I played with some alternate crops of the scene. To me, the middle feels a bit empty. Finally decided it's the spire at the left edge giving me that impression. So I cropped a bit more from the left to remove it. I also did a different b/w conversion, but I like yours better.
I'm sure you had a great time here and came away with many lovely images! |

I really like this ground level perspective, it makes the background so nice and soft the subject really stands out. The comments about the shade of green are not something I'd have thought about here, but I can see the point. The one thing I'd like to see is just a bit more space at the bottom for the virtual legs, assuming the foreground doesn't end up overpowering. |

Dolphins are some of the hardest animals to photograph because it's so hard to predict where and when they'll surface. Getting to a spot where you can see them underwater does help as you noted.
I also really like the original image with multiple animals, including the one visible underwater. I might just crop a smidge from the bottom of that frame as an alternative to this crop. |

You really caught the story of the parenting with this frame. Both chicks eagerly reaching for the fish- almost overwhelming the parent given their size! I love the circle of water around the parent's head too, a good sense of movement and action.
To my eye this image needs a bit of clockwise rotation. The birds are "sliding downhill" and the ripples and reflections in the water also are off-level.
What a fun thing to go photograph, glad you found some that were close enough. |

I really like shots like this that give some context for the bird (or animal). It's nice to have this type of shot, along with closer portraits, in your portfolio of a species or place.
That said, I like your composition - the placement of the bird (with room to look in to) and the crop specifically. |

That head-on view with the obvious speed of the action is impactful to say the least! The big splash and all the water droplets really add to the image. I rather like the story that the blurred wings tell against the frozen water- how incredibly fast were they flapping??
I liked the crop suggestion so I tried it just to see. I think it's even more in-your-face this way because it removes so much of the surroundings. |

I could've maybe gotten closer, but there were several of us shooting so we needed to stay out of each other's way. Also this bird was considerably smaller than most of them that were visiting the flower so I didn't want to get too close and miss those! |

Your point about the light being the same on the different components is such a good one. I've seen so many composites where the light was different on the different pieces, and they just look weird and fakey. This is very nicely put together for a good story telling picture. Well done. |

Wow, super shot! So cool with the snake hanging out of the beak like that. The light is pretty and is giving some really nice colors in the bird and the background. Even a little catchlight in the eye.
If you have a bit more room on the bottom and right I'd add just a bit as it feels tight to me. Yes it's nice to minimize the post, but a bit more would support the weight of the bird, so to speak.
So lucky to have such a good opportunity. |
