My first thought when I saw this was "cool, he got an owl by moonlight"! So your effort with the exposure paid off.
I do find the bright branches distracting, so of the 3 crops, I like the selected one the best, that completely eliminates them. I love the setting with the patterns, textures and shapes of the building and the placement of the owl. This crop lets you focus entirely on those elements.
This is a wonderfully moody image- very fitting for an owl. |

The dark background works well, I just felt that the main part was more interesting in the lighter version.
I meant to say "lower left" corner, should've re-read what I wrote I guess.
Here's a quick revision to illustrate what I'm trying to say. |

Wonderful patterns and shapes to this fungus, I can see it would be fun to play with. You chose a very interesting section with great curves and depth to it. Having the shallower DOF so that the background bit is soft is a good choice to help that foreground bit pop.
Your processing has certainly brought out the textures and patterns, I like the added contrast. I do rather like the brighter tones to the original, I find this a little dark, but then in the forest perhaps it was dark.
I like your crop getting rid of the elements at the bottom and right that detract. I'm on the fence about the piece in the left corner. I think it detracts a little from the wonderful segment that comes forward. Cropping it out greatly simplifies the image.
Fun subject! |

What a lovely falls, was worth your effort to get to it and wait out the rain!
I love the diagonal log in the foreground and the plants underneath it as foreground elements, it gives some nice interest in that part of the frame but without overpowering the main subject. Your choice of shutter speed gave a pleasing amount of silkiness to the water.
I agree with Larry's crop suggestion from the top, I might also consider a small crop from the left. To me it's a bit better "balanced" with a little less of the dark rock on the left.
Overall quite a lovely image.

Quick thinking on your part to come up with a way to capture this shy little creature.
The sidelight is crucial in this image, as it brings out all the textures in the sand, the stump and the crab itself. Maybe the low shutter speed caused some of the images to be blurry, but I don't think the f/22 really hurts here. All that great texture would be a bit lost if it wasn't sharp.
There's a lot of repeating oval-type shapes in the image that add to the appeal as well, even down to the small shells in the foreground.
Overall a very appealing image.

Good points about the face and the bright area. I've made a few tweaks- maybe didn't go quite far enough with the face.
Thanks for the suggestions! |
