This is SO striking! The people walking toward the end enhance the leading lines to the tunnel. Overall, a really great image in my opinion

What a nice thought! Will have to convince our club to do this as we have so very much summer here in S. Florida.

As to the image, it's a portrait I would love to have of a loved one any day and very well done.

3 Mar 20 Comment I am familiar with Valparaiso as it was a short stop for us a few years ago en route to an Amazon River cruise. Lovely city. Mar 18th

This is a very good record shot but, and I don't mean to be negative, I find it just a bit too much. I don't know quite what to focus on first, the overcrowded hillside, the beautifully colored houses, the winding street?. All would probably male lovely images independently, but together they are competing for attention.

I like the one you chose. Original 1 has a somewhat strange expression an in original 2 we don't see the face at all..Therefore my choice. And having done some of this kind of work, appreciate the effort to get everything you want. Well done.

I love shooting this kind of image. I, too, think I would make some adjustments to the lighting. Lightening the can might become an issue because you are obviously shooting into the light. but I would think about darkening the face of the wall around the window and maybe playing a bit with the outside.

My first reaction was that this is a girl. I like the monochrome much better than the original color. This is well done and for me, the raised arm brings the view right to her (?} face.
Well done

This is not crazy. The work you put into getting the glowing edges filter to 'make" the image was certainly worth the time. However, as to the statue, I think you might have found a better substitute, but I'm not sure what. Or another option would to bring the dancers closer together and eliminated the centerpiece altogether. I, personally found it a distraction.

What an interesting subject and I love bananas. Well done. Just a suggestion....save this image in a file with options should you ever want to create a background layer. Some of the oddest things when distorted, etc. make very interesting background layers you can play with for effect.

29 Mar 20 Reply I have an android and really haven't had much experience with phonography. Guess I'll have to move into the modern world one of these days. I'm still addicted to Photoshop. Mar 9th

Absolutely beautiful image. No corrections suggested, it's too good for that

31 Mar 20 Comment I never meant to suggest that taking this kind of image is exploiting the subject. I find they are very interesting socially and photographically and if I am with someone else, one of us will usually offer them something as a thank you if they are awake. Mar 14th
31 Mar 20 Comment Visiting from 48 & 80
I agree with the comment re the bags and find the image very well done otherwise. We had an image of a homeless person last month in group 80 that elicited a whole bunch of social commentary. Take a look if youre interested.

What a wonderful piece of work. It brings back memories of my youth when I sewed much of my own clothing and that of my daughter. Wish I had the patience to create an image such as this. But you did give me inspiration

I am so impressed that you got the poles so sharp and were able to get the blades showing obvious movement. I haven't gotten that lucky yet.
As to the strokes I usually make them no larger than 2 pixels and tend to lean towards white. However, occasionally I will take a color from the image and use that maybe even a shade or two lighter depending on what my eye finds pleasing at the time.

I prefer the monochrome. I find the colors somewhat demean the dogs where as in the mono the dogs are undoubtedly the subject. As to the front dog's hair, I like it. Reminds me of my own when I need a visit to the hairdresser

The binder doesn't bother me at all but what I'm not thrilled with are the dark shadows across the one mannequin's body. I did try eliminating it with content aware fill but that didn't work and I think that trying to clone would be too destructive. I wonder if shooting from another angle might have lessened the impact. I do like the overall image quite a bit

I have to agree with Stephen.. Your original 1 gives me more of a feeling of the intensity of the storm

Nice image. I do not see the softness in the cowboy on the right but I am on my laptop on a small screen. Does anyone else see it?
Mar 15th
32 Mar 20 Reply You're welcome. Very easily done. I keep a whole file of skies and whenever I see an interesting one shoot it and file. Mar 8th
32 Mar 20 Comment A place I always wanted to visit and never got there. I like this image and found the person only after it was mentioned. The only think I wasn't thrilled about was the sky or lack of it, so I took the image into photoshop to create an alternative. I opened one of my skies, made it into a monochrome and reduced the brightness and opacity just enough to leave a hint of sky as I felt that the almost perfect white was just too much. What do you think? (Please don't mind the rough edges as my tablet is attached to my laptop and I'm working on the desktop) Mar 7th

This is a great image and I love your creative idea. I did try several ways of achieving a reduced opacity on the ribbons but nothing was nearly as successful as leaving them alone.

Great job!

I find the processing very successful and well done; however, I find the
items on the lower right of the image somewhat distracting. I removed them with a content aware fill and wonder what you think.

Everything technical in this image is as perfect as it gets, but the thing that stands out for me is the horizontal leaf which when I first looked at it looked like a bird resting on the leaf. Very well done.

I wonder if you have Topaz filters. If you do, I would suggest you play with them. I find sometimes they bring out the WOW in a rather average image.

That said, I do like this photo but am in agreement with the others re impact.

I like the lone tree, but I think I would have tried to enlarge it a bit. And yes, I agree with the suggestion to consider making it a panoramic view by cropping just below the top layer of clouds

Great image. I feel that the light spot is meant to draw the eye into the building. I wouldn't overdo the work on those hills, but possible a non destructive layer mask with a light touch would do the trick quite easily to darken the hills. The work you did on the building paid off handsomly.
Mar 15th
46 Mar 20 Comment Visiting from 48 & 80
The textures in the bricks and overall details are really very good. What I don't care for is the half building on the left. Might you have stepped back and included the entire building or stepped in closer and elimnated that entirely?

Otherwise an excellent image.

48 Mar 20 Comment I love this. I attended my first Day of the Dead in Fort Lauderdale this year and was fascinated by the lengths they go to to dress up and the ingenuity of their costumes.

This image is very well done and the bright color of the truck in the background is a real plus.
Mar 10th
48 Mar 20 Comment The flower and the light shining on the center are really lovely; however, I find the greenery a bit overpowering compared to the size of the flower, so I took the liberty of cropping some of it away still keeping the flower off center. The macro is superb. Mar 10th
48 Mar 20 Comment This does tell a nice story. My only suggestion for a change would be to crop out what looks like another fishing pole on the extreme right border behind his back. If you're like me, you were probably so intent on getting the image you never saw it. Well done Mar 10th
48 Mar 20 Comment This is an adorable shot and a heck of a lot more interesting than just the green leaves. Well done and very innovative. Mar 10th
48 Mar 20 Comment This is a beautiful image but the blue sky is not too "exciting" The story here is the antique wooden pier in the foreground and the "falling" sun. So, I've taken the liberty of cropping out some of that sky and made it into a panorama. What do you think of that version? Mar 10th

50 Mar 20 Comment And this one leave you guessing as to what she's looking at.

Both are technically correct and personally, I prefer the individuals over the one that leaves me looking from one end to the other not quite knowing what to focus on.

I prefer the monochrome here but you have two distinct images here. The knitter and her friend are a separate image as is the lady looking on.

I have a similar image that I shot in Obidos, Portugal 43 years ago but I was lucky enough to catch a single bird flying through the rafters. Actually got it published in Petersen's Photographic magazine.

This one is very well done. I, too, prefer the monochrome.

53 Mar 20 Comment Arabella, you always seem to come up with that extra plus either in processing or in the original image. Well done. Mar 15th

55 Mar 20 Comment Like the subject but would still prefer that the background be blurred a bit and darkened so it would not compete with the subject as much. Mar 17th
55 Mar 20 Comment On my screen it looks like an oil paint filter was applied Mar 16th
55 Mar 20 Comment Visiting from 48 & 80

Would have liked to see the original as I think this is probably a great image without the filter. Would suggest just blurring and darkening the background a bit so that the subject really jumps out.

When I was photographing in Central Park several years ago with my first photography teacher, we came across a gentleman spread across a bench, not asleep. I commented that I'd like to get his face so Jack promptly approached him and asked if we could photograph him. He was most accommodating and when we left Jack gave him $ 5.00 and thanked him. A win win situation for all of us.

That said, This is a lovely image and I believe that the b&w has much more impact than the color.

Am I ever jealous. Spent 2 weeks in Kenya 32 years ago and never got this lucky....caught the other 4 of the big five and even saw a cheetah kill, but at that time, no lens long enough to capture it.

Excellent image maybe just a little cropping would help.

80 Mar 20 Comment Love the image. A vignette probably would be a big plus but overall the image stands well on its own. Well done! Mar 17th
80 Mar 20 Comment Thanks to all for your comments. I wasn't really thrilled with this image but I thought it was the best of the shoot and I needed to submit something the following night. I pulled an 8 out of 10 so for a grab shot from a judge who gave everyone very low scores, I guess I didn't do to badldy. Mar 17th

80 Mar 20 Comment I do this fair almost every year and come out with at least one good image. This is great and this is one of those times when the artists expect to be photographed.

Removing the feet took me about 5 seconds using content aware fill
Mar 17th
80 Mar 20 Comment I like the image but agree with the comments on the sharpening results. Congratulation on the Ribbon! I prefer the b/w to the sepia tones, so I guess you were lucky I wasn't the judge. Mar 17th
80 Mar 20 Comment I much prefer the monochrome. I wonder if you ever approached the couple. I sometimes do when I have camera in hand just to meet another photographer and get some insight as to what and why they are shooting.

At any rate, I feel that the monochrome makes this a very effective image...nicely done

80 Mar 20 Comment Love this image - Tells multiple stories; that of the lady questioning the vendor as well as a view into shopping at this kind of venue; and, thirdly the husband standing quietly by. I'd love to see his facial expressions during his wife's conversaton. Mar 17th
