It tells me that this guy is not going to Denison St or Miller St South!! Or maybe this:-
Above, the city still sleeps. Below, in the Underground, the lights are already burning; escalators murmur into life, and the machinery of morning stands ready. One man passes through - the first intrepid scout of a new day, a tiny trickle that will soon swell into a torrent of humanity as the city wakes once again from its nightly slumber.
Interesting exercise - made me go all poetic! |

Trey - You must be building up quite a barn collection by now! It is interesting that you mention brooding storm clouds because the sky is quite bright in your original. Maybe your added sky is more like you saw the scene, but did you consider an HDR approach which would retain the original sky? I do like the round barn - very photogenic - and it reminds me of a saying from Cornwall that they built round houses to stop the devil from hiding around the corner. |

Rusty - a well taken image with plenty of detail throughout and good exposure in both highlights and shadows. I like the framing of the two bright trees by the dark tree, but it looks like a step to the right might have been slightly stronger as it would give us blue water around both bright trees. The dark foreground tree almost has a heart shape, fitting in with the Friendship Garden title. |

Jay, This is a good competent image, but I agree with Ian that it needs something extra to lift it - maybe a person in a red jacket on the rocks or some stormy waves. Still, this will have memories for you of your trip to Lake Erie, and sometimes that is all a photograph has to do. |

That does look like an impressive waterfall and your shot through a 'window' in the trees gives it an intimacy that might be missing in a more open view. Good use of a slightly long exposure - 1.3 secs is enough given the volume of water. An overcast day is good for waterfalls as it reduces highlights on the water. I would suggest a little extra local contrast - darkening the blacks in the waterfall would give a bit more structure to the flow of water. |

So I don't know if this is the picture Sanford intended to put in this month, but I do agree with Ian - the interesting part would be the bridge and temple that we only get a glimpse of through the leaves. Maybe next month we might see a different shot of the temple with the red leaves in more of a supporting role? |

Thanks Ian. Yes the red gloves are very dominant, hence the mono treatment. An interesting 'boxing tradition' that was explained on the night is that when boxers are awarded a belt, that happens after they have removed their boxing gloves. So pictures should be either with belt or with gloves, but not both at once. With 5 photographers at the event, there was no time for him to remove gloves, fit the belt, then take off the belt and refit gloves, ready for the next photographer. |
