Hey Trey, just thought I would comment that I really like this crop. I think with the original I was looking left and right for something of interest, but this constrains the viewer to a straight path to the sun. Much stronger IMO. |

Kudos for being up at 4:30am. Very nice composition with Mt Fuji peering through the clouds in the V of the hills, plus the added interest of the red gate. I agree with Henriette about the two white squares, they do snag the eye and could easily be cropped or cloned out. I wonder whether a harder crop would remove the bright foreground water and make Mt Fuji the star of the show? |

The original image does look rather flat and lifeless, but you have brought out the colours and sky detail well in the final image - especially the autumn colours that were almost missing in the original, so well done on that. A couple of suggestions - I would turn down the green saturation in the grass - just slightly - for me it is starting to go a bit artificial. Also it looks like the barn is leaning slightly to the right - you could correct that with a skew adjustment, but probably it really was leaning?? |

I am always fascinated by snow in these red rock areas. Lovely 'Christmas Tree' in the foreground and well done on composition with the central rock spire standing in its own space. Suggestion - try applying an Auto Tone adjustment in Photoshop, it brings out the green in the tree, darkens the rocks and adds a bit more depth I think. |

An interesting shot of the bird, with nice detail in the feathers. Good idea to remove the background birds (of course that means it is no longer a pure nature image). I agree that the bird needs more separation from the rocks behind as it gets a little lost against the rock textures. Instead of darkening, I tried blurring the rocks. To avoid a bur halo around the bird the trick is to first select the bird and foreground rocks then do a content aware fill - that way there is no bird to bleed into the background when the blur is applied. |

I don't have a problem with including the sun in a sunrise shot if the exposure is well handled, and I think you have done a good job here - especially for a single shot. Did you consider an HDR approach? I like the way the light catches the rocks in the foreground, but I find myself looking around for a main subject. The rocks are quite flat and dark and the sky mostly clear blue, so there is nothing to really hold the interest other than the sun. However well done for getting out for sunrise (the best time for photography in my opinion) and your shot gives you a good memory of the morning. |
