76 Nov 25 Comment It is always good in nature shots to have some interactions going on, and this looks like the tern on the left is offering the fish to the one on the right - maybe a male trying to impress a female who is typically not interested! You are a bit restricted in shooting angle from a boat, so there is a large out of focus area in the foreground that you can't do much about. However I also think the exposure on the right tern is very bright, which you could turn down a bit- the original image looks fairly dark. Going with my 'offering' theme, a good title would be One Good Tern Deserves Another - sorry, couldn't resist! Nov 19th
76 Nov 25 Comment Henriette, the addition of colour really makes the difference here, and even if you did not notice a connection in the diagonals at first, it probably 'looked right' at the time without having to think about it. A nice simple graphical image that would not be out of place in some up-market modern apartment. Nov 19th
76 Nov 25 Comment Jay, I like the top half of the image with the misty city sky-line, but I find the rocks across the image in the foreground create a bit of a barrier to getting to the interesting part. As Henriette had a go, so have I. I copied the water in front of the rocks (including the wave), then moved it up to cover the rocks and blended it into the more distant water. No more rocks, but we have a wave to provide a bit of foreground interest. This is not too artificial, as it looks as if you simply shot over the top of the rocks. What do you think? Nov 19th
76 Nov 25 Comment It's always great when you see a car that is obviously well looked after by the owner. Your low angle on this pretty much excludes all surrounding distractions and it is always surprising how much more you can push the contrast in mono to get detail back into the road and sky and show off those deep blacks of the car. Mono also mean the red car on the right is not a distraction, because that is black as well! Nice one. Nov 19th
76 Nov 25 Comment I have seen a number of metro images from various places, and they make great subjects with lots of composition opportunities. Well done on this one - the very strong converging lines gives the image a dynamic feel, the browns give a consistent colour palette throughout, and the exposure is well controlled. A good image that shows us the metro, but also has some flair in the composition. Nov 19th
76 Nov 25 Comment Thanks for your comments Henriette. I use a Formatt Hitech filter system (unfortunately they went out of business in April!) So the polariser screws onto the lens and the filter holder clips onto the polariser. Lightroom is a lot more capable than it used to be, but I am used to doing most of my processing in Photoshop so tend not to use many of the recent Lightroom improvements - not right or wrong, just my preference.
