76 Oct 25 Reply Thanks Jay - yes, good spot on the poles, it would be better without them. Oct 30th
76 Oct 25 Comment I am surprised that you could pull those colours out of the original, which looks a bit dull, despite being take in sunshine. It's good that you have three structures in the picture - the central lattice stops us from bouncing from one building to the other. I do find myself wondering if there is more colour in the trees higher up - it is quite a wide narrow panorama. Did you take horizontal or vertical shots - the original suggests horizontal. Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Comment I am always fascinated to see snow in these 'desert' locations - I know they are quite high, but in the UK, we expect it to be hot all the time in Arizona! Great combinations of colours - strong reds, blues and greens. I did not notice the yoga class at first, so if that is what you want to present, I do think a crop would help. The large tree bottom right either has to be all in or all out. For me, cropping it out puts the yoga class on the bottom third, balanced by the foreground rock, and we still have the depth of view off to the distant mountains. Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Comment Sanford - I hope you came away with lots of shots like this from your workshop. This is a great dynamic shot of the jaguar - your high speed shutter has really frozen the jaguar and all the sand it is throwing up. It's a pity that the vulture is quite blurred - is that depth of field or movement? I get the overall nature story here, but as the jaguar is very dynamic on its own and it is looking straight at us, I would be tempted to crop out the vulture altogether - it is quite dark and blurred and the jaguar is not looking at it anyway. That would just leave the jaguar charging at the camera, which is enough of a story!! Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Reply Thanks Sanford. I already replied to Trey about the exposure length being constrained by the moving boat, which means the ripples are frozen. I could try some texture/clarity reduction and see how it looks. Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Reply Trey - I get your point on the names, but I think there were broads in the English Norfolk long before there were broads in Norfolk, Virginia! Regarding the settings, with this type of shot I would normally use an ND filter for a long exposure to smooth out the ripples, but the boat was moving. F9 gave me enough depth of field and a 1/40sec exposure time which was fast enough to freeze the boat. Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Reply Thanks Ian. Don't hold your breath waiting for a winter shot - too many other places to visit before we go back! Oct 26th
76 Oct 25 Comment Ian, your use of a (very!) long exposure certainly adds dynamics to the clouds. The long tree trunk gives us a lead-in, but you mentioned you had some higher viewpoint images and perhaps those would give some separation between the roots and the far shoreline. Regarding the trees on the right I do find them a bit distracting. What you could try is take a short exposure, use Content Aware Fill to remove the blurry trees on your long exposure then blend in the static trees with a darken blend mode. Just something to try out. Oct 26th
