Hi Sophie - I can see the tattoos on his arm, but the black area I mentioned is immediately to the right of his head - it does not look like a tattoo. As always it is your image, I am only making my suggestions. Congratulations on your FIAP acceptances - well deserved! |

Thanks Ian. If you want to see the aurora, now is the time as we are close to the solar maximum. I have been fortunate to see the aurora on three separate holidays - Iceland, Norway and Sweden - always a sight worth seeing. |

It looks like snow in Chicago (when I visited the snow was real and it was -17degC). I like the way the flower frames the building, which shows attention to the composition. Prompted by Ian I have had a go at pulling detail out of the grass (just a curves layer to pull down the shadows in the foreground) In fact, if we pull out too much contrast, the image begins to loose its snow-like feel, but a bit extra contrast in the grass and trees might be OK. |

Good work on bringing out the lovely sunset colours - much more powerful than the original but still looking natural. Did you consider a portrait crop? I agree that the sun is quite small, so a portrait crop would lead the viewer towards the sun because of the shape of the frame, and you do not loose interest by removing the left/right edges. |

A riot of colour and detail, with lots of different little stories to look at. I too thought of Where's Wally and counted 8 people with glasses. A good travel image, showing us the people of this country. I did find myself wondering what they were all looking at. |

A very attractive misty autumn image, with an evocative description. I think you have brought out the colours very well from the original, but retained the slight mistiness. I agree with Jay, that perhaps you could keep more of the tree on the right, moving the trunk a little more away from the edge of the frame. |

Thanks Jay. I do not want to deceive people, so I always say if something is a creation or the real deal. (I just wish this was real!!) |

Thanks for your comments Sanford. I think August is not the time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland - too much daylight. However there is plenty of scenery, so I hope you enjoy your visit. The link below shows the day/night hours through the year in Reykjavik.

Thanks Sophie. I absolutely agree that the image looses its magic as it is not a memory of a real event. If I had been there, I would have a strong emotional connection to the image, but it is now just a technical exercise to see what I can achieve. Oh well, I will know where to go next time! |

This looks like my early morning exercise routine! Well, maybe not.
A good diagonal composition and I really like the spotlights in the background which give some context and stops the background from being a plain grey. Also a good image for a mono conversion. Just a few detail comments. There is a black line across his ankle which looks a bit odd. Also a black patch on his arm next to his head and a sharp edged shadow on his arm just to the right of that - all things that could be cloned out or softened. I also think his back is slightly over-exposed and wonder whether you could bring some detail back from the original image. I don't know if you are still doing FIAP exhibitions, but these are suggestions of things I would adjust before trying it in a FIAP competition (and I think it would be suitable for FIAP). |
