Thanks Trey. Boats are popular in the UK because the sea is never more than 70 miles away, so there's always a bit of coast (ideally with boats) less than 2 hours away. There's a fair bit of dodge/burn in this image, but looking again, maybe I should darken the sand (or mud!!) on the far bank. |

Thanks Sophie. I mentioned in the original post that the main part of the processing was just raising the shadows and dropping highlights in Lightroom. After that it's just small tweaks. |

Thanks for your comments Henriette. I'm not so sure about artist - my wife is the real artist (take a look at Group 24 and you will see what I mean). But I was pleased with how this one turned out. |

Similar to your previous tree picture last month, I like the way you have processed to bring out textures and details. There was a bit of shine in the original which you have managed to remove and I like the reddening of the bark to contrast with the green (complementary colours and all that). To me the image is about new life breaking through the dead bark, so I prefer a wider crop that shows how small (and therefore fragile) the new life is. |

There's a 'rule' in photography about groups of three - like all photography rules it's there to be broken but sometimes as here it serves well, and the group of three flowers makes a very nice arrangement. I don't mind the branch behind the flowers too much because the flowers hold the attention, but I wondered why the flowers were so small in the original. With a macro lens could you not get in closer or were they too high up in the tree? Regardless it's a good image of some attractive blossom and hopefully the quality stands up to the cropping you have had to do. |

That's a fine majestic mountain rising above the trees and the dusting of early snow really sets it off. The clouds have plenty of detail and add to the drama, so I would not complain too much about the light if that was my image. If I can make a suggestion (which I always do - sorry!) I think you were a bit enthusiastic in brightening the image. Try overlaying your final edit on top of the original and adjust its opacity - simple to do, and you can then decide how much extra brightness is really needed. |

I think this is my favourite of your Tanzania picture so far. I like all the antlers poking up into the sky and the feeling of sunset after a hot day. I think we do want all the sky because it places the horizon on the third, and it is more interesting in your final image than the original capture. The foreground was very dark in the original and you have lightened it a little. I would suggest pushing it a bit more, just so that we see some detail in that area. But overall it definitely says Africa to me. |

Thanks Sanford. Yes, old boats always make a good subject. |

Thankyou for your comments Ian. I'm probably overly critical, but the one thing I would have liked to change in the composition is the far boat which is behind the strut of the front boat. A shift of a couple of feet left would have solved this, but would also have put me in the river! |

I really like the idea of the old vs new - you do seem to like your projects, which is a different approach to photography than anything I have tried so far. Regarding this image, I was about to mention the dust/scratches, until I saw you had added them. I think it looks very convincing as an old photograph. There is a very slight tilt to the image, which might be part of your 'ageing process', but it's easily corrected if you want to. Good luck with the rest of the project. |
