76 Mar 23 Reply Thanks for your suggestions Trey - I'll certainly consider them when I re-visit this image. Mar 25th

76 Mar 23 Reply Thanks for your comments Ian. The aurora is on a lot of people bucket list. This was the second holiday where I have photographed the Northern Lights. The first time was in 2015 in Sweden, but I had a UV filter on my lens and every single photograph had concentric rings of light (Netwon's rings) due to the interaction of the light with the filter. I was so gutted, so getting the chance to photograph them again was a real thrill, which is why I 'rushed' this image onto the dialogue even though it was a quick edit on my laptop. Mar 19th
76 Mar 23 Comment Now for the serious comments. This is a very high key image, which suits this snowy scene. I like that you have picked out a pair of small trees to act as the focal point, and there are a pair of larger trees flanking them on either side - that's a well seen composition. I'm a bit unsure about the flat white of the foreground. I think I would like to see a bit of texture there, but as it looks like there was none in the original, it would have to be added artificially, which you may not want to do. Mar 17th
76 Mar 23 Comment Hi Trey - from the discussion above, what you really need is one of these - but you may need an armoured car to mount it on! Mar 17th
76 Mar 23 Comment You have captured the feel of the hunt almost from the lion's point of view and I like that there is a separation between the pairs of wildebeest in front of the lion, which gives us a triangle of interest. I agree with Henriette's comments that the lighting, contrast and colours in the processed image are an improvement on the original. There is a lot of plain sky in the image, which could be cropped out as all the interest is in the bottom half, but we certainly get a feel of the lion's slow approach and the panicking wildebeest. 76 Mar 23 Comment These old arcade buildings make great architectural subjects There's lots of detail and good sharp focus throughout this image and you really need your 14mm lens to fit it all in. I also agree that the exposure is handled very well in your processing. It's almost symmetric, but not quite! One little suggestion is to use a vertical ruler in Photoshop to check that everything aligns top to bottom, and if not the skew tool can line things up very easily. Mar 17th
76 Mar 23 Comment This is what I call God's Own Light as it looks like the light of heaven shining down on earth. Well worth grabbing a photo when you see it as it often doesn't last long, and you have done well here to bring out the colours and avoid over-exposing the light area. I like the rocks coming in from bottom left, and the breaking wave adds some interest on the right. I would also vote for cropping out the top part of the sky - I tried cropping just below the dark cloud top left, and in my opinion it makes for a more powerful image. But well done on catching this with your phone - most modern phone cameras are remarkably capable. Mar 17th
76 Mar 23 Comment This is a very attractive flower image where the soft processing suits the delicate pink colours. My wife does a lot of flower photography and she always says they are best photographed on overcast days to avoid harsh contrasts. I quite like the petals going soft at the edges, but if I were to change anything I would retain a little more sharpness in the centre as that's focal point of the image. But regardless, it's a very attractive image as it is. Mar 17th
76 Mar 23 Comment I like the fact that you have separation between all the main sails, and also that the group of three coloured sails are in the middle, flanked by the two white ones. I do think the image looks a bit undersaturated in the background, and needs a bit of a contrast boost to give it a bit more definition, but well done for photographing from a bobbing boat! Mar 16th
76 Mar 23 Reply Thanks Henriette. Actually photographing the Northern Lights is not that difficult - being in the right place at the right time with a clear sky is the hard part! One of the cars is our hire car, which is sort of why I left it in, but of course that does not mean anything to anyone else. I brightened the town lights in processing, so maybe a bit too much? 76 Mar 23 Reply Thanks for your comments Sanford. One of the problems with such a wide panorama (remember it spans 180deg of sky) is that you inevitably get a lot of foreground at either end. I agree there is a lot of rock in the foreground and I already tried to reduce this, but I will probably have another attempt at editing this image on a larger screen. Mar 16th
