Thanks for your comments Trey. I wanted to keep the mist in the bottom of the valley, but yes, the bottom left corner is a little bright, so I could try darkening that down to match the rest of the image base - good suggestion. |

Hi Jay - not a question of redeeming yourself as there's no right or wrong here - just people's opinions. In the end it's always your image, and only you know what it was like when you took it and whether you are happy with the outcome. |

Thank-you Sophie. I certainly felt the sky was too bland in the original, so I wanted to just add a little texture, without making the sky the star of the show. The mist lasted for about 2 hours, at least until we packed up to go for breakfast! |

Thanks Ian. We checked the forecast each morning and went out 3 times before breakfast on this holiday. We were rewarded each time. I always like being out for sunrise, seeing the start of a new day. |

Thanks Sanford. It is a lovely part of the world to photograph, especially when the conditions are right. |

Hi Trey - that's fine. It's your image, so what looks right to you is what counts - I'm only offering some suggestions to consider. |

I was thinking of a camel to add to the picture, rather than as a mode of transport!
I see you have an EOS7D, so is your 24-105 an EF lens? I have an EOS-R camera so mine is the RF 24-105 F4L series lens which might be a little different. Anyway I think its a superb lens, covering a reasonably wide angle for landscapes, through standard focal length to portrait, with 5 stops image stabilisation. It's noticeably sharper than any of my previous 'standard' lenses, so I'm well pleased. |

You've asked for help with this picture, but I find it a little difficult to know what to suggest. Unfortunately I don't see much connection between the woman and the red shoe as she has her back to the shoe. I agree that the second picture is not so good as she has her eyes closed, so why not swap the eyes for the original? I also thought about de-saturating the woman to put more emphasis on the shoe. I've attached an example - maybe that helps? |

Mono images are all about shape and texture and you have those in spades here. A low sun is absolutely the right lighting for this view. My suggestions would be to darken the highlights a little to bring out the contrast in those areas, and also lighten the large dark area - particularly the very dark patch left of centre so we can see what's in there. Oh....and borrow one of Sanford's Mongolian camels! |

Your choice of shutter speed is good and Autumn is clearly a good time of year to visit for the wonderful colours. However I agree with Sanford that the image is a little unbalanced. You have already cropped in on the right, but I would crop even more. Did you take any with the camera pointed a little more to the left? Also be careful with processing the water - the exposure in the original looks OK, but there are blown highlights in the final image. |

A very evocative image, even with a silhouette we can see enough to know it is a camel being ridden in the desert, and that's all we need to see. The little bits of sand being kicked up really make the image. I think this would do well in the Travel category of PSA exhibitions. Good job. |

I really like the processing of the water and the dead tree makes a good focal point for the image. Your shutter speed is spot on - some movement in the water, but still plenty of detail. In processing you have lightened the image quite a bit (which it needed), but I would keep a little more contrast in the woods to add depth, and also maybe crop a little on the left to remove part of the large rock - that would also move the tree towards the third. |

Sometimes a good photograph is simply one that meets the brief, and for me this certainly does that. The competition is a wonderful idea and a good way for a club to do something for the community. Adding the smile is a touch of genius, so well done. I'd be interested to hear what the 'judges' thought! |
