Thank-you Sophie. It is important to have that catch-light in the eye as it brings the bird to life, so I was pleased to capture that. |

It's interesting you prefer part of the bird hidden, as I wondered whether the image was let down by missing out its tail. But I didn't have much choice, as this is the only shot I got before it flew off! |

Thanks for your comments. A 600mm lens is pretty much essential for this type of shot - even with this focal length you can see how much I had to crop in. It was only a short walk to the hide, so not too much of a problem. |

I don't think I've seen an infra red nature image before so well done on something a bit different. The bird is nicely presented with its wings in a good position and is sharp throughout. White birds are very easy to over-expose, but this one looks just OK even in the brightest areas. However overall the bird is quite bright, so I would reduce the exposure a little which would show off some more detail in the bird. |

I really like the mono treatment here as it suits the subject and I always think mono brings out cloud detail and you have some nice wispy clouds here.
The obvious comment is about the jet in the background which looks out of place against the WWII aircraft - it could easily be cloned out. (It would be easy to re-take the image a few seconds later when the jet had gone, so maybe you wanted it as a contrast, but I find it a bit distracting).
A good record of an aircraft that obviously means something to you.

I think you have done a very good job of pulling detail out of the planes from quite a dark original. Did you apply any over-exposure bias - the original looks like you could have pushed the exposure a bit higher without blowing out the sky. I use Topaz de-noise which does a great job on some images but I think Topaz AI is a new package which combines de-noise with a couple of other tools to sharpen/re-size images, so I might look into that.
I would probably agree with Ian's comment that the sky is a bit too blue - the original sky looks more natural and probably just needed a bit of brightening. Otherwise, good job and well done on a nice sharp image of the jets which is not easy to do. |

I like this image - it doesn't look like a large waterfall, but there is enough flow for interest. The original did not need much processing, but you have enhanced the contrast and green saturation enough to give the image a bit more punch. Maybe you could crop a bit off the right so that the waterfall is more central - that would reduce the area of large foreground rock, but you would also loose the interesting red leaves around the tree so it's a bit of a compromise - I would try a crop and see what you think.
PS - You haven't mentioned the shutter speed, which is the most important setting for flowing water! |

An interesting group which tells a story about the connection between mother and daughter and the girl and her bird. I know a picture should stand on its own, but I would like to know a bit more about what is going on - is it indoors/outdoors, what might they be looking at?
As to the technical details the lighting is very good and the mother's face is well illuminated. A couple of suggestions though. The girls face is a bit in shadow behind the bird, so I would try to lighten her nose and chin, and also lighten the bird itself. Also the mother's sleeve is very bright and could do with some darkening to focus attention on the faces. |

Thanks for your comments Ian. You are correct that judges prefer animals in nature shots to be doing something as it adds to the nature story, so I don't expect this to win any awards. However our local federation holds an annual competition which always has a nature category, so I need at least 8 'decent' nature pictures a year (4 print/4 digital) to get on the scoreboard, and I hoped this could be one of them. |
