Thanks for the comments. I did say the original was deliberately overexposed, but the full process was that I was taking a series of 5 bracketted images with different exposure lengths as each wave came in. That allowed me to select the one with the best flow in the water. I chose to use the most over-exposed image as it had the best flow and also helped with the dark cliffs, but I blended in a bit from the fourth image of the set. |

Thank-you for the comments. So far I have not found a problem with sunsets in competitions, and for landscapes it is usually sunrise/sunset that gives the most interesting light. Hopefully judges will continue to reward those who venture out at those 'odd' times of the day. |

This is an excellent image of this mushroom. Very often when I find mushrooms they are already decaying and damaged, but this one is still perfect and I love the little water droplets all around the outside. I'm not surprised that you needed focus stacking to keep it all sharp - was this done in camera or with some post processing software? The post processing is also good. Just one small suggestion - the processing has brightened some of the greens in the background. If you overlaid the original you could revert those highlights back to the more subdued greens of the original capture, mainly the small highlight above the mushroom. |

An interesting character. I think the main image of him holding up the coin shows his lust for money and tells us more of his story than your other option. Normally I would say to avoid hands in front of the face, but it would be very difficult in this case as we want to see him concentrating on the coin. A tighter crop would force us to look just at the character, but I think he is strong enough to hold our attention in your main view which shows his setting, and I don't find the gold cushion to be a distraction as it is out of focus. Overall a good image from the theatre, and one that I could see being used to advertise the play. |

Photographing water in the landscapes is one of my favourite subjects, and I agree that for capturing waves, about 0.5sec seems to be the sweet spot. I like the soft light in this image which complements the softness of the water, and the flow of water diagonally across the frame. Not much I would change except perhaps a little more brightness on the right side? |

I really like the viewpoint and composition of this image, with the waterfall framed by the mossy trees. It looks like access to the falls is quite difficult, so well done on finding this composition. You've also used a suitable shutter speed to show the flow of the water without loosing all the detail. In terms of the three images presented, I have to say my preference is the original. I prefer the forest as a dark and mysterious place with just a few glimmers of light, so I wouldn't change the original much - perhaps just a slight lift in brightness in the centre to emphasise the main subject. |

Well done for giving this a go if it's something different for you. Sports photography is not a genre I've ever tried, however I've seen talks by sports photographers and mostly they use crazy high ISO to freeze the action. In this case with a relatively slow shutter speed you've captured movement, which makes for a different type of sports photograph - not a record shot for a newspaper, but capturing your own view. All the action is over on the right, so I would crop out the left side, and that would also remove the distracting guy in the orange shirt. You did the right thing to remove the sign and if you want another cloning challenge, I think removing the fourth sportsman in the background would further strengthen the image. |
