Hi Frans- this image is a real Wow! It really catches the action and drama of the waterfall, and the people below give it great perspective. This could be a real winner!

HI Kathryn, If it weren't for the ominous reasons for clouds and colored skies, this would be a lovely, moody image of a memorable sunset. I'm really drawn into the image and imagining myself sitting on one of those lounge chairs on the porch, but troubled by what lies beyond the horizon. It's well composed and has a great story behind it! Wouldn't change a thing! |

Hi Geoff- It's an interesting drone shot, especially if you're familiar with the area. But it's new to me, and the one thing that stands out is the little island close to a coastline. Since most of the scenery at the top is unclear, I wonder if it might help to crop it down a bit, and also enhance the clarity. I did that with the attached copy, and it seems a little more dramatic with the crisper coastlines and the lines within the water. What do you think? |

Hi Scott-
Welcome aboard- great start for a first submission!
I tend to agree with the others that B/W makes sense and the greatest impact for this image. There is not enough color in the original picture to make it colorful, and B/W helps to draw out the shapes and textures that make the image pop.
I look forward to seeing more of your images in the future! |

Hi Pierre-
I agree with Frans: the fireworks and reflections are lovely, but could be enhanced with the crop he suggested. That brings out the colors and reflections more distinctly. Lovely picture! |

Hi guys- thanks so much for your excellent comments! We're traveling in the UK right now so I have been slow to respond, but I really appreciate your thoughts.
You're exactly right about the big cactus in the front commanding so much space and attention to the detriment of the mountains behind. When I was there, I was ennthusiastic about catching the glow of the sunset in the branches of the cactus as well as the mountains, and that drove my decision to leave it as a focal point in the front of the picture. But you're right: the picture should have one central actor (point of reference), and the cactus should have a much smaller supporting role. That's something I notice more in the pictures that others take, but seemed to forget in my own image. Thanks again for the reminder! |
