Thanks for your comments, Frans. I didn't get to visit the Badaling site, so don't know the comparison, but the time of day and whether the day was a holiday made a big difference in crowds. There are a lot of nice spots for images where I was- if you can see them through the crowds. |

HI Frans, What a beautiful photo of a beautiful spot at a beautiful time of day! Wish I could have been there with you! I agree with all of Frans' comments and suggestions, and would only add that a bit more contrast and saturation (in addition to what Frans did) would probably give it a little more "pop". I tried that and here's what it looks like. |

Hi Kathryn,
This is terrific- really speaks to my soul! We lived in AZ and NM for 25 years and I am drawn to everything Western. This is perfect from my standpoint: great lighting, excellent composition. I like the way the pointed mountaintop echoes the pointed roof of the old store. No suggestions- great shot! |

Hi Geoff- Is this in Angkor Wat, in Siem Riep, Cambodia. We enjoyed a visit there several years ago and this brings back some happy memories. I agree with Pierre- nice colors and actors, and a great souvenir shot. I tend to think that photos that will be entered into competitions will focus on the subject, such as the architecture and dancers, and remove the distractions of the tourists. The buildings there are really awesome- otherworldly- and I think they will carry the picture without the dinner scene. I tried to eliminate the dinner guests using PS generative fill, and one of the options came out like the attached. That's what I would look for in an architectural photo. |

Hi Pierre- that's an interesting process you captured which I suspect is unknown to most observers outside that area. I was certainly bewildered by the image and what was going on. I agree with Geoff that it seems a bit flat and uninteresting with the heavy fog and almost monochrome look of the picture. I wonder if there would be some way to focus more on the Boom to help tell the story? If not, perhaps you could give it a bit of dimension by making the center a bit brighter and vignetting the edges to focus on the boat? Here's my effort to do that. |

Such a lovely pastoral scene, Tami- really appealing! I love the sheep in the front and the leading lines that take your eye to the beautiful sunset. Like Pierre said, I wish the castle were a bit more prominent. It's a fascinating feature, but a bit lost on the far left side. It would help to be a bit larger or more toward the center and perhaps, lightened just a little to make it more visible. But overall, the effect of the scene is really attractive.

Thanks for your comments, Geoff! I was lucky with the weather that day. Many days there are foggy or smoggy.

Thanks, Pierre. Yes, you're right. I went to the Wall several times, and usually I was greeted with a group of wall walkers like the attached picture. |
