thanks, Frans. Good comments and suggestions. I actually did just submit this image to a Florida statewide camera club competition and won a 1st place- really excited about that! If I submit it elsewhere, I'll keep in mind the possibility that the judges may want to review the raw file. I would be pleased to show that this really was the sky as I saw it- and have never seen another like it. |

Hi Geoff- I love this building and you captured it beautifully!! It's very nice to have the water and boat in front and the small buildings in the back to provide the context of the opera house, but the opera house truly dominates the image and is just outstanding. That's one I wouldn't mind having on my wall. |

I like it! As others said, it has great color and sharpness. I think it works well to show just a piece of the bridge, but I wonder if it might be a bit more complete to show the top of the building- maybe a little sky? Good job!

Hi Geoff,
I love the idea of the bridge and the fireworks together- both are very eye-catching- and I'm fascinated by the technology in your camera. My only thought that that the fireworks seem overpowered by the bridge, and I wonder if the fireworks were more prominent if the picture might seem a little more balanced. I experimented by enlarged a couple of the fireworks to make them take up a larger space. See what you think. But for a first effort with a new camera, great work!

Small clarification: the clouds are better described as "mammatus" clouds, rather than as mammary clouds. The definition of mammatus is actually mammary, but the technical word used for this type of cloud is mammatus.
