Thanks so much, Kathryn. That whole area has so many lovely spots to photograph- but this is one of the best. Glad you got to visit there, too. |

Hi Frans, i love the simplicity of this shot: one simple small building contrasted with the white snow and dark background. Removing the little runways and moving the building to the right simplified and improved the shot further; and they emphasized the loneliness of this location. I think this is a winning shot! |

Hi Kathryn, What a nice composition with the mine buildings in front and the glacier in the back! I like the picture very much, especially the low, dark clouds with the blue sky in the back, but it's just a little confusing where the focus of the picture is. I would think the main subject is the mine building, but the building is pretty dark, and my eyes are drawn to the bright glacier in the back. I tried brightening the building just a bit and that seemed to bring more attention to it as the subject of the picture. I'd love to visit there, as you did. |

Hi Geoff-
I agree with all the other comments, especially the need for more sky. I love the leading lines of the creek, but they would have a little more impact if they were leading toward the sky. I tried adding a little more sky, and like the result. |

Hi Stefaan, I love the night picture with the starbursts around the lights. My sense is that you wanted the bridge to be the main subject of the picture, but the lighted buildings in the front really draw your attention away from the bridge. I think it would be nice if you could darken the front buildings a bit to make them less prominent and also lighten the dark space in the middle so it looks like there is a connection between the front and back parts of the picture. But it's a very attractive night picture that I enjoyed studying. |

Hi Pierre-
Yes, this was a picture that I worked hard to get, but was really distracted by so many others trying to get the same shot at the same time. I had to quickly grab what I could get to let the next person have my place, so I didn't have a lot of captures to choose from. I agree that having a little less of the full sun would have been better, but at least I was able to get a good sunburst with the angle I shot. Makes for a nice memory!

Hi Pierre- like the others, I love the composition and colors, but like Pierre, I wonder if a bit more contrast would help. I tried darkening the water and lightening the lighthouse just a bit to try that, and I like the extra touch of contrast. |

Hi Tami, I love the feeling of the picture: the warmth of the evening colors, the angle of the stream, and the placement of the couple on the bridge all make for a really appealing image. I wonder if it would help to bring more focus to the couple if you cropped just a bit off the right side and bottom. But, regardless, it's a great image!

Thanks, Geoff-
To get the sunburst pattern, you need to use a small aperture: F16 or smaller. And the sun needs to be partially obscured by a mountain, tree, or in this case, the bottom edge of an arch. The sunbursts can show up with the full sun, but I don't think they are as effective as when you just capture a small portion of the sun, and then the sun doesn't overwhelm picture. I've had fun experimenting with sunbursts in several locales, and I think they can add a nice element to the picture.

Thanks, Frans- That's a little puzzling about the banding. I didn't see it when it was a 20MB picture, but when I reduced it to <1MB for this posting, it showed up. Actually, I didn't see the banding until after it was posted, and then couldn't do anything about it. The sky did have a good bit of color that morning, but it doesn't show up well in this picture. I just reduced the size again from 20MB to 915KB using a different method, and it looks more like it was supposed to look the first time.
