Thanks, Stefaan- Good comments. Yes, it should be sharper. It tried to sharpen it in post, but that didn't help as much as I had hoped.

Thanks, Geoff. That makes sense. Sometimes I forget to change the F-stop if the picture looks good through the viewfinder. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks, Tami. I really didn't notice it either. I'm learning to be a bit more observant in this forum. |

Hi Frans- I really like this image! As you know, I generally prefer colored images, but you've shown here that b/w can be very dramatic, especially when combined with a shot of color- as with the kayakers. The color really helps to tell the story better with the b/w background of mounds in the water. I agree with you and Pierre that it really helped to eliminate the other boaters and focus on the one kayak. Halong Bay is one of my big bucket list goals- even despite the throng of tourists there. Thanks for sharing this image.

Hi Geoff- This is really an impressive place- one I would also love to visit. But, as others mentioned, it's hard to find the right spot to get a good perspective for a picture. All the curving walls are just a bit disorienting, and the two visitors help anchor it. The light coming in through the two main openings seems a bit overexposed- but maybe necessary because the cave is so dark. I think you did a good job with some of the challenges the cave presented and you made the cave an interesting place to visit.

Hi Stefaan- I agree with you- the clear reflections of the buildings in the water are very attractive and interesting. I like the angle of your shot with lines converging at the end which really draw your eye through the picture. I don't really have any suggestions. Great work!

Hi Tami- I agree with Pierre's comments about the dramatic location, the interesting helicopter, and the distracting red ledge in the front. Interesting perspective for the shot: were you in an aircraft to take the picture, or just on a high point of land? I agree with others that this is a unique point of view of the Canyon, and it's very appealing.

I love the effect of the big moon over the city! (You said it was a "blue" moon, but it looks red to me!) I generally like panos, but the scenery to the right of the moon isn't very interesting. I wonder about moving the moon to the left to be closer to the city and cropping off some of the less interesting lights on the right. |

Hi Frans- Yes, I can see the difference you made, and I really appreciate your suggestions. Could you tell me how you eliminated the haloing around the arch? That's something that I struggle with.

Thanks so much, Pierre. Great insights and suggestions. I need to learn how to use focus stacking- not something I'm really familiar with. But I suspect that would make a big difference. |
