Hi Terina- you're absolutely right. The picture was affected by clouds crossing over which darkened parts, but I should have lightened them more in post, and I think that would have improved it. Thanks for the comments!

thanks again, Pierre. Yes, you're right- I was on a fairly high perch to be able to get on top of the volcanic fin that goes through the middle of the picture and was trying to make the foreground as dramatic as possible. You're also right about not having a very wide angle lens with me, which would have helped. But I wish I had thought of your suggestion of taking some vertical pano shots- that would have helped.

Thanks, Pierre- When there's so much going on in a picture, it's hard to know what to cut and how much to leave so it doesn't seem too crowded. I appreciate your thoughts!

Hi Geoff- Thanks for your thoughts. I believe you're right that a bit of cropping on the right would improve it. Best wishes!

Hi Frans, you knew I'd be very drawn to your picture from Huang Shan since I've been there fairly recently. I love the scene with the vertical cliff and the sharp outcroppings in the background. About feedback, I think it might look a little stronger if the background mountains were a little brighter (less shaded) and maybe, if there were a bit more color in the sky showing the coming sunset. I tried to make a couple of subtle adjustments to do that, but didn't change it much. |

Hi Geoff- All I can say is Wow! The starkness and simplicity of these pinnacles on an otherwise flat and barren terrain is really powerful. thanks for the explanation: I'm fascinated to know more about why they're there. Would love to see them some day. |

Hi Pierre, When you take sunsets over the water you touch one of my really soft spots. I love the colors, the rays and the reflections. The glow around the sunset is obviously the focus of the picture, but to my thinking, it's so small in the back of the picture, that it loses its impact. I tried cropping the picture a bit to make the sunset more prominent and offsetting it a bit so that other elements in the picture are a bit stronger. it seems like this makes the sunset with its colors and rays a little stronger. |

Hi Tami- That mountain is really impressive, and your picture captures a good feeling about its size and beauty. The red wing(?) on the left adds a nice color contrast, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Is that a wing of a plane that you were in to take the shot? A little more explanation would be helpful. Anyway, it's fun to see your picture.
