70 Dec 22 Reply Thanks Pierre! I wish I could say I was talented enough to use PhotoPills or TPE- both of which I have in my phone. I tried to pinpoint the sunrise at one good location over some arches, but didn't get it quite right. For this picture, I got further back where the sun had not risen yet and walked around until it seemed like I had to right angle- with a little more adjustment as the sun came up into the arch. It was basically "try and try again", since I had not mastered Photopills.

70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Frans- This picture really gets my attention: it's from one of my favorite places in the US. It's a beautiful combination of water, cliffs and sky at a lovely time of day. I wonder if this was made a while back before the water levels have dropped so much recently. I love the rippling water which draws your eye around the bend ahead and the bright blue sky which is reflected in the water. I don't quite understand what the long dark spot in the middle of the blue reflection toward the bottom of the picture, or the blue spot just to the left of that. They don't seem to be reflections of anything, and they're just a little distracting. Seems like it might be better to remove them if they are not integral to the picture. But I am really drawn to the picture and to the scene where it was taken, and wish I could have been there with you! Dec 20th
70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Kathryn- I love this composition: Dark rocks in moving water, big waves in the middle ground and a lighted cliff in the background: just about perfect! My only suggestion would be to try to make the sunlight on the cliffs just a bit brighter to draw your eye to them. I tried that in the attached copy and it seems to "pop" just a bit more. But I really love this picture! Dec 20th
70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Geoff- Those are great rocks, and very appealing with the low rays of the sun. There is a nice flow in the picture from the grasses in the front through the tree to the big stacked rocks. My only thought is that the tree is so prominent- so similar in size to the rocks- that it's a little unclear what the subject of the picture is: the tree or the rocks. This probably isn't possible, but I wonder if there is a higher angle for the camera a little further back that could result in a smaller tree and a more prominent rocks? Anyway, it's a nice picture of a beautiful place which I'd love to visit. Dec 20th
70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Terina- Another very nice sea picture! I particularly like the way the sun lights the rough rocks in the foreground and middle ground, and the cliffs in the distance. To my taste the water in the foreground doesn't seem quite natural- more like smoke or mist, but it does give a strong feeling of action and flow. I agree with Geoff that a slightly darker sky might help set off the warmth of the sun on the rocks. Dec 20th
70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Pierre, This picture really draws you into it and makes you want to see down the lane. I like the fact that it is a bit blurred and gives the feeling of an abstract painting. The bits of red in the leaves really help to set off the yellows. This is not a criticism, but I wonder if having a person in a colored coat down the lane would provide a point of focus. I really like the Fall feeling of this picture. Dec 20th
70 Dec 22 Comment Hi Tami,
I don't think you need to change a thing in your picture. Having the people, the furniture, and even the water bottle helps the picture to tell a story which is very appealing. The colors of the sky and the sun through the sailboat and the reflection are really nice, and I particularly like the silhouettes of the people on the boat. Great job.

70 Dec 22 Comment Thanks, Geoff! interesting idea about adding some color to the sun- not something I would have thought of, but I'll definitely try that in the future.
