Hi Frans, Shots directly into the sun are tough, but you handled this so well. The bell tower really sets the tone for the picture, and almost seems to tell a story of a sleepy town waking up to the church bell. I'm really drawn to this picture at several levels. Great job!

That is so impressive, Kathryn- and one of the best shots I've seen that totally fills the sky. Really spectacular, and really makes we want to go to a place where the Aurora happens. So nice to see the Big Dipper through the color! |

How neat is that! Such a special opportunity to get that great perspective on a river!

HI Terina- Those composition really "speaks" to me! i love the leading lines of the chains out to the pier, the silkiness of the water, and the sunset tones reflected in the water. you've obviously learned (or are learning) how to use blending of photos effectively- something I'm barely just starting, and your results are an inspiration. Great job! And super congratulations on your wonderful photo recognized in the Member Showcase!

Hi Pierre, I love the sunset colors with a tree in the foreground- nice combination. i agree with others that since the foreground is a big element of the picture, lightening it a bit might make it warmer. This scene really makes me want to be there!

Hi Tami- Great light trails- really makes me want to try to do some of these. This was an excellent setting to try this, and it worked well. I'm just wondering if it might help to slightly lower the opacity of the light trails so you can see through them just a bit? But I do light this picture very much.

Thanks, Kathryn! I think you'd enjoy going there- it's a very special place. Unfortunately, they no longer allow photos within the church, but it's still a great place to visit and reflect.

Thanks, Terina- It was hard to get low enough to get the church fully into the gate, and I agree that there are so many eye-catching points of interest there. Kirk

Thanks, Frans! I actually did try a number of different perspectives from near and far, but this one seemed the most pleasing. In retrospect, I do see how this could be improved.

Thanks, Geoff. That entrance gate provides such a wonderful frame and it's fun to try to make it the "entrance" to the picture. I will try to lighten a couple of the darker areas, as you suggested.

Thanks so much, Pierre. I appreciate your good eye in noting the shadows that need to be lightened and the tilting towers. I tend to have such affection for the spot and the memory of taking the picture that I don't notice some important details. I'll try to work on those areas before submitting it elsewhere. |
