Hi Geoff- The lines in this are so striking and appealing- looks like an abstract painting! Really like it, and wish I had the opportunity to take some pictures like this. |

Hi Terina- I agree with the others about the appealing starkness of the image. And I also agree that cropping could help strengthen the image by drawaing more attention to the beach walker and birds. (see attached) But I really do like the image and the feelings it portrays.

I always love reflections in the water- they really help to tell the story and broaden the impact. Well done!

Hi Kate- Your picture seems almost like an impressionist painting to me, in that it seems to convey a mood or feeling about the scene rather than a specific object that's been photographed. I could just imagine sitting on the beach and seeing, hearing and feeling the ebb and flow flow of the waves. I agree with the others that having some object to fix on, but I like the feeling it portrays.

Thanks so much, Terina! I'm just learning how to get sunbursts and, like you, I feel that they can add a lot to a landscape picture. I spent more time on trying to get this picture than most, and I love remembering the feelings I had while I was waiting for it. Thanks for your comments. |

Hi Frans, yes, you're right, I used an F-18 setting to get the sunburst, and that was really an experiment, since I had not had much luck getting sunbursts before. About the monastery, it is indeed a very special place of peace, quiet and reflection. It is by design a "silent" monastery where the monks don't speak much, except when absolutely necessary, and since there's no TV, phone or internet, you're main focus is on the beauty around you. Hope you get to go there one of these days. Thanks for your comments. |

Thanks, Geoff. I actually tried lightening the trees a tad, but it didn't seem natural- at least the way I did it, so I left that alone. It was hard to find the right balance to emphasize the sunburst and also the lower vegetationn. But I'll try adjusting again to see if I can improve it a bit. Thanks for your commments.

Thanks for noticing that, Pierre. I'm usually pretty conscious of horizon tilting, but missed it on this one. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks so much, Kate! I had passed by the spot several times and just missed the sunset. On this day, I got there early, parked and waited. It was worth the wait. |
