John-As far I remember I did make my comments and I read my comments after submission!! I don't know what happened after that.
Here are my comments on what I remember now. You handled the situation very rightly using the HDR technique bringing your image presentable against your original image. You did very well in this king of situation. Good Job!

jesse-You could also use the HDR technique to bring out details in shadow as John did in his shot. I use this HDR technique on my iPhone which works nicely. I hope your camera can do it for you. You can improve your image in Photoshop too but I am afraid you don't use it.

David-Never heard of Dingy filter but it worked well for you all over and gave you a warm tone effect with good detail. This old man really looks sad and waiting for someone to join him.

Priscilla- You came with lovely Yellow Orchid flower but I would show a full complete flower instead of cutting near the edges all around. I would also suggest to tone down the whole image a little bitto bring out the details. Using the black BG is a nice choice.
