Julie--Thanks for the interesting details about your process in creating this image. This is a very attractive still-life, with the butterfly adding "action" in an otherwise static scene. Your technical skills are in another league from mine! Nice work. |

Maude--I must agree with Robin: this does not quite work for me; although, as Robin says, photographs can mean different things. To me, the extended and foreshortened left foot dominates the image and becomes the main element rather than the dancer's face. Her expression is not quite bright enough to convey her love for her art. Having said that, working with models is fun and a great learning opportunity,so I applaud your efforts. |

Barbara--The amount of snow clinging to the branches of this tree tells the story of the blizzard. The snow almost suggests flowers to me. Maybe I'm just anxious for spring!

Thanks, Robin. The figure is, in fact, standing on the edge of the parking lot. The location is the remains of an ancient volcano called Ubehebe Crater, a popular spot in Death Valley. |

Mark, thank you for mentioning Ruckenfigur, a concept I'm familiar with but didn't think about in this instance. It made me realize I have several examples of Ruckenfigur amongst my images. |

Thank you, Peter. I found the scale of the landscape to be sort of overwhelming and felt the figure helped "tame" it somewhat. No tourists were harmed in the making of this image. |

Peter--Wow! That's real rain. I like that you have captured the wetness of the scene so well. The rope visible across one man's back tells the story of the tug-of-war going on. I like the group on the left huddled under the umbrella which seems insufficient to ward off the heavy rain. It was a lucky chance you saw this. |

Mark--This appeals to me very much. I like the clarifying effect of the IR and the beautiful white trees which seem surreal. The sky is wonderful. The man-made element of the pier seems fragile and temporary in the natural setting. I'm glad the flag is there. |

Robin--The silhouettes are interesting and mysterious; they suggest sheep and trees without revealing too much. The full moon adds a wonderful element to the overall composition. I love the mist. The image looks like an illustation from a children's story book. Lovely. |
