58 Jul 24 Comment Sergio--I really like the combination of the shadow figure with the umbrella and the bright window display (which is perhaps a little bit too bright). The group of mannequins seems to be interacting with the umbrella figure which is an interesting narrative. I don't mind the right side; I like the word which looked to me like the english word "forget" in reverse, adding some ambiguity. I do think removing the dark verticle support improves the image. The fact that the figure has an umbrella is very important to the success of the image in my opinion. Jul 21st
58 Jul 24 Comment Ed--Wonderful subject but I agree with Isaac's much tighter composition. The dogs facing the camera make the image special. The boat is very cool-looking - it's so tiny! Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Comment Bruce -- Looking at the original, you did a masterful job of cropping this to isolate these two interesting figures. However, I agree with Sergio's crop; I like to see more context of the lady in the mask and the face on the sign above. My impression is that posing is a favorite activity of theirs; after all, they have put considerable thought into their outfits and "look". Cool image. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Comment Pinaki-- Another interesting subject from you. The figures are wonderful, but the first thing I thought was why not color? I find the faces too obscured in the shadows and wish they could be brought out more. I would also definately crop out the big sign over their heads; it is very distracting. This image has a lot of potential and I think you could get more from it. Nice work. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Comment Hi Bev -- I also think the over-exposure works against the image. I like the palm-y leaves in the background. The reeds or whatever sticking up in the lower left kind of bother me. I completely understand why you chose to make the shot: a barefoot woman in a wedding dress and tiara sitting on the ground is too good to pass up. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Comment Isaac--Another winning image! I love everything about this image: the body language, the writing on the wall behind the men, the way the three figures are arranged, the chessboard is very visable so the narrative is clearly presented (perhaps the third man is waiting for his turn to play the winner). I think the color version is excellent but I also really like the b/w version. Just an all-round fine photograph. Congratulations! Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Reply Sergio--Thank you. I am a big fan of your work. I think we understand each other photographically. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Reply Pinaki--I am humbled by your generous comment. Thank you. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Reply Hi Bruce -- I often prefer b/w but I see your point about the original color version. The brightness issue may be due to the monitor on the old laptop I use not being quite accurate because it looked ok to me on there. Thanks for your nice comment. Jul 20th
58 Jul 24 Reply Isaac--I'm glad you mentioned the woman's closed eyes because I, too, think it adds interest. In this instance, capturing the decisive moment was the result of shooting lots of images and often just "shooting from the hip" as I was walking along. Jul 20th

99 Jul 24 Comment Peter--Thank you for your nice feedback; it's much appreciated. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Reply Thank you, Barbara! Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Reply Thanks, Robin. I agree that darkening the wastebin would be beneficial. I see it as part of the setting (and I don't have the editing chops to remove it) so I don't mind it, but it doesn't need to be so prominent. I guess my approach is closer to photojournalism because I usually have a warts-and-all attitude about stuff like this. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Comment Hi Gary--I agree with Barbara's version. I have been to this location and appreciate the diversity of plants and animals that thrive in this harsh environment. For me the subject is the contrast of the fragile-looking bird with the formidable cactus. I think a slightly tighter composition would bring this narrative forward more. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Comment John--The first thing I saw was your reflection nicely centered in the door glass. It adds interest to a static achitectual composition to have a figure visible, in my opinion. I like the warm tone; very suitable to this subject. Now I'm going to go out on a limb and say I like the tree and sky above the parapet. There's a foggy quality that looks good to me and the big tree suggests the wooded setting. The stonework is very attractive. Nice image. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Comment Hi Robin--I like the dark vignetting around the subject. The overall feeling of the image is almost "crime scene". The slow consumption of a steel vehicle by vegitation is sort of disturbing, which is what makes it interesting to me. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Comment Peter--Unfortunately the feather doesn't read well at all and I would eliminate it. But, I think it's a very interesting portrait. I like the pyramid-shaped composition with his knees and hands at the bottom leading up to the very expressive face. I don't get a sense of demonic or evil; I see an interesting character who enjoys posing for photographs and probably thinks he's pretty photogenic - which he is. The cross necklaces add nice interest to the black tee shirt. I really like the balance between his face and his hands. I'm glad he's got the stubb of a roll-your-own between his fingers; perfect little detail. Nice work. Jul 21st
99 Jul 24 Comment Barbara--This image made me smile; we had a schnauzer when I was growing up and I remember her enthusiasm for play. I like the action pose a lot. I agree with Robin about the square format and the diagonals created by the paving stones. I also noticed the glint in his eye which really brings the image to life. Nice image. Jul 21st
