I love the way the intentional brightness pulls the viewer straight to the dog making it the centre of attention and this is further strengthened by the shallow depth of field. The only suggestion I have for improvement is to remove the shoe on the left edge. |

Before I read your comments Stuart I thought how much it looked like a darkroom print. Many photo club judges especially those with no darkroom experience frown on grain referring to it as noise but in some instances it suits the image and I believe that is the case here. I like what you have done with the crop from the original and the way you have brought out so much detail in the drum kit. The smoke/fog is a good foil to hide any distractions and the 7 tiny lights adds a nice frame although I would have got rid of the two closest the left edge to make a smooth arc of 5. I think you have done really well with this one. (Have you considered emailing it to the band? I think they would dig it). |

I agree with Stuart about the lack of detail on the lips neck and eye socket but I dont mind the deep shadows on the neck and cheek as it adds mystery. The background light treatment works well to highlight the head shape. I think there is some degree of success as it looks more life like than mannequin. |

The road is a strong leading line with the big rocks guiding through to the background giving a good sense of scale. I agree with Stuart on the foreground contrast. It is mainly on the left half that needs more work as the right half looks OK. The graduation from light to dark sky works well. |
