Very high key and so it all becomes about the composition which works well as the trunks form a strong leading line all radiating to that top left intersecting third area. The semi silhouette effect works for the subject matter and the image is quite mesmerizing. |

Nice. Amazing how much extra life the catchlights give. |

The sepia treatment works well to add some age; sufficient to match the content, and makes an interesting environmental portrait. You have worked well with the subject in portraying him so relaxed and confident. I am torn between the sepia and the B & W version which shows greater contrast especially in the tie & suspenders and brings out greater texture in the trousers. I prefer both to the colour version. A little work on his eyes to make they sparkle could be worth a try. |

Unusual building indeed. The first detail I register are the windows which have a lot of impact and I think that is because they have strong blacks and clean whites set against a fairly mid grey building which in itself has a wide range of subtle tones. Considering the overexposure issue in the original you have done a good recovery job. As per Stuart, some sky detail, especially threatening or dramatic would not go astray. The only thing that bothers me (and it is only minor) is the foliage behind the centre of the building (on the sides is fine) so a lower viewpoint or one angled more from the left to hide them with the building may have worked well but that may also have interfered with the perspective. |

I'm in awe with the luminance, detail and clarity and the contrast really sets it alight. I have tried many shots inside churches, cathedrals and the like but hav'nt come up with anything as interesting as yours. I had not thought to go to mono as my logic and ignorance tells me stained glass needs to show the colours but I guess converting to mono has isolated the chandelier making the image simpler and more impactful. Looks like time for me to revisit my cathedral shots. |

Hi Stuart. Yes I do use photoshop and both their 'colour' & 'saturation' blend modes can be used. I find it is quick & easy with good results so it has become my go to method. The best part is it is a quick way to check if a colour image will look good in mono. If it does not then you only have to press EDIT- undo twice to get back to the colour version. Anyway I am glad your tried it and hope you get something out of that. |
