Joshua Tree lends itself so well to Black and White. This is perfect. The tones lend themselves to the starkness and drama of the desert. A really strong image. |

Thank you, Paul. I redid with no snow. What do you think? Also to Jerry's comment, I submitted with a slight rim of snow. I think I prefer it with no snow. Your thoughts? |

Thank you,Jerry. I originally took all of the snow on the bottom out. Then put it back in to show a sense of the day. Please see it with just a rim of snow. Better? Also see my response to Paul's comment. Which do you think? |

Nice catch, Dave. I have the 300mm too and like how it blurs backgrounds but how sharp the subject remains. The only suggestions I have is cropping in on the right or removing the partial branch. I have to admit I prefer the color version because of the many variations in the birds feathers. |

This is such a well done photo. The focus is right on the flowers and the water drops add to it. Last year I went to a tulip festival in Woodburn, Oregon and they had many fringed and parrot tulips. Would love to go to Keukenhof. |

I agree with Dave that this is a wonderful picture but the left side is too busy and distracts. I cropped in on the left but left the trees to frame your sunburst and shadows. I left the bottom because I like the long shadows. Also I cropped down a bit and in on the right a bit. Lastly, I removed the branch going across the bottom of the image. I think it now focuses on the shadows and sunburst. I find it interesting that you were able to get that sunburst with an F14. Did you experiment with F stops? F22 is what I usually try and works the best. |

Converting this to Black and White really sets the tone and mood. Even the gull on top shows up better. Did you use a gritty filter in post processing?I like the crop because it shows that old boat is pulled up on the beach, probably no longer used. What stories can this boat tell? |

I love it! The background is not competing with the owl and cropping in he is really flying toward the viewer. What do you think? |

The owl is wonderful and such a great catch. I like the reversal. Might I suggest cropping a bit up from the bottom and in from the sides to further emphasize the owl? I like the textured background, but I would prefer to see a background where there is more contrast with the owl. Perhaps blurring the background. He is great! |

Thanks, Dick. I am glad it works for you. Personally, I love input. Love to think about it, let it simmer, and then see what works. It's the only way we grow. |

I think it is important, Dick for each of us to keep our own vision in mind, while considering suggestions and critiques. Afterall, it is our photo in the end. If my suggestion does not work for you, then it doesn't. It is a beautiful photo.
But this is what I was thinking. |

Glad you like the Crop. I have had Topaz Studio for about 2 years. I obviously am not using it to its potential, since I just learned about the Sharpening. I believe you can get it on a 30 day trial. This is a Study Group at its best. Good luck! |

Welcome Rebecca. I, too, love photographing Dahlias.I can't wait for Dahlia season to begin here. Would you consider cropping in on the right more so that more emphasis is on the center ies? Also, I would suggest cropping up or just removing the partial leaves on the bottom. I cropped it according to my vision...it might not be yours and I also tried Melanie's Topaz Sharpen. Wow...have I learned something this month! I also removed noise a bit with Topaz. What do you think? |

Beautiful Dick. I have not heard of jewelweed. Are these tiny blossoms? Everything is appealing. The only suggestion I have is to remove the stem on the left and the top leaf therefore, leaving the focus to be on the curve of the stem holding the blossom and the curve of the blossoms. |

This is a lovely flower. You have brought the pink texture out beautifully. The cropping and black background are great.Since you wanted the stamen to be showcased, I would have placed my focus on that. It is not quite as sharp as I think you wanted. I tried to sharpen that area using Viveza from the NIK Collection. Not sure there is a difference. I think Melanie's, using Topaz is sharper. |

Beautifully done! Just isolating the 2 blooms is what really worked, as does the slightly blurred 2nd bloom. I have a question for you...I have always been told to pick a flower in good condition. When some of the petals are ripped, I spend time "mending" them. I see 2 petals I would have fixed, you didn't, and it looks fine...better than fine. What is your thinking? |

A pleasing look to this flower. I like the angle of the stem and the one remaining leaf. I am confused with your settings...F35? Is a decimal point missing? Then, the 1/2000 ss would make sense. Where did you want to focus on the flower? I think the petals could have been a bit sharper. I love the contrast of the Green and purple. This is just my personal opinion, but I prefer not such a yellow green. I reimagined it with changing the hue and saturation level and cropping down a bit. What do you think? I need to check out the Cezanne look. |
