Thank you for the suggestions, Lance. I tried adding more shades and contrast in the vegetation and worked a lot with how the water and sky relate to the island, but reached the point where I lost the serenity and the feeling of the super soft light on this foggy drizzly day. I went back and forth and ended up here which felt right to me. I like your suggested edits, but I was trying to dial in my personal mood. Thank you for presenting a compelling alternative. |

Thank you, Mike. I consciously processed this to try to reduce the weights and presence of the water and sky trying to achieve a more "dreamy" (if that's the right word?) focus on the island. I will work with your suggestion and see how it changes the image- thank you for the idea. I also spend quite a bit of time looking at this one- it is one of my favorites from the trip. |

Good morning, Lance. Nice capture. The shadows between the rocks are subtle which puts me in the mind of a hot and hazy summer's day that pulls the contrast from the scene as viewed with your own eyes on site. I like this photo, but wonder if a slightly different framing- a little less wall on the bottom and more sky on the top to give the tower some room to breath- would have provided a bit more balance. Do you have a vertical presentation of this scene that focuses on the three windows on the right and the tower? I do love the small countryside vignettes viewed through the windows. |

Good morning, Tom. I have been looking at a lot of IR photos online lately (Thomas Heaton especially has been enjoying his new IR camera) so I did recognize this right away as an IR capture. I like how the foreground vegetation and the clouds vignetted what I perceive as the subject- the stand of trees on the far bank and especially the reflection. With the leaves and other objects floating in the river, it looks like you have reflected a night sky although it appears this was taken mid-day- very interesting effect. I love it. |

Good morning, Mike. An image full of drama and contrast. The breaking waves, the building clouds, the dark borders- I can feel the heat myself and see the storms rolling in. The drama introduced by the weather is contrasted with the calm attitude of the beachgoer. If you had the chance to wait for them to take another step or two to get some separation from the rocks, it may have helped the composition just a bit but I really like this one. |

Good morning, Debasish. I have had many opportunties to attempt to photograph stilts, and I have never had the good fortune to find one by itself and in the shallow water unobscured by grass. Very fortunate to come across this scene and glad you had a chance to grab it. I agree with the comments that some cropping may help the photo, but as you may be able to tell from the photos I post I am ok with telling stories of isolation so I am not entirely bothered with a LOT of negative space. For me, it is all about what you intended to say with this photo which determines how much to crop and where to place the subject. But in any case, as your original photo and Lance's suggested edit show, the base capture is versatile and well done. |
