Nice shot of an artist who appears to be "in the zone". My eye starts at his face, but then quickly traces a circle to the bright lights, to the artwork, to the guitar itself and back to his face. It is a nice scene, but I feel like the lights are a bit hot in relation to the brightness of the artist's face for my taste. The lights are an integral and critical feature of this portrait, but toning them down a bit would help me stay with him trying to figure out what he's seeing in his mind's eye. But there are no extra elements here- it is all needed to set the scene and provide the mood. Nice exposure. |

When I first looked at this photo, I saw a horse that was not happy to be stuck in the barn. The tight crop and the slightly bowed head to me provide some emotional indicators that the horse really would rather be roaming freely. I agree with not adding the catchlight- it would have worked against what I perceive as the overall somber mood of the horse. Overall well captured. The white body has a lot of weight with the brightness and more central position and this does tend to pull my eye away from the horse's face. Some brush work to darken his shoulder and/or lighten his face just a touch might help to hold the eye on the face. Well done. |

I love this shot. I can feel the energy of the night scene with the well exposed architecture and the slight blurring of some of the actors on the stage. This vantage point places solid focus on the building (which I am interpreting as your intent), but a lower vantage point may have brought the people more into central focus and shifted this to more of a story of the night life. I would love to see both versions, but this is well done. |

I like the choice of scene and composition. The perspective allows the boats to merge into a single strong shape with leading lines that pull me quickly through the image. Once at the end of the lines, I find myself wondering what is in the far distance. The light spots and shapes are just enough to suggest something to me, but not enough to let me know for sure. Curious if you tried a version to either crop those light spots out or otherwise minimize their presence. I do like the overall exposure of your slight tweak as it makes me feel the midday sun a bit more. Really nice shot. |
