Nice composition with the dock bench and it's reflection. I like the early morning (assume) lighting and soft colors of the image and the reflected footprints on the dock. |

Agree with David about the bird's shoulder, but the bird is in a nice pose and I really like the Dragon Fly in the beak. Good eye and waiting for the right moment. |

Like the image. Agree about the pipe. Maybe cloning away the 66 sign and pipe might work. But, the shot is still very interesting with the pipe. |

The original image is a little underexposed. Multiple bracketed images would give a higher dynamic range to work with, especially the shadows. |

Thanks for your comments. My aim was not two styles, but instead to have a painting look for the final image with more detail of the subject boat by control of masking, flow and opacity. |

This responds to your and Judy's comments which I do appreciate.
The docks and stairs are part of the story of the docking boat and help frame the boat in the scene. In this image, I wanted a painting look with rough brush strokes to blur areas around the boat but highlight the subject boat. The image is not your typical edited photograph and I understand it is not for everyone. But, I do like to do this process on occasion and wanted to show it to the group as one of the things I like to do.

Nice set up and subject. It would be good to let us know what camera settings and lens were used. Maybe in this case, how close you were to the subject is the problem. Usually, the center will be in focus and the edges not, but in this case it is the reverse. That makes me think maybe the camera was too close. If this were my image I would run it through my de-noise sharpening program. As to the bright center area, I would take one of the darker HDR exposures and make it a base layer and then put the HDR composite on top. I then would mask out gradually the composite until the center area is my desired effect. Then I would merge. |

I like the story and reflections in this image. The composition with the 2 reflected people and one actual person makes the composition more interesting. You might try adding a glow filter (or increasing saturation), to the actual person and his lift, to give the image more pop. |

What a nice scene. The problems you encountered are made for HDR because of the high contrast in light and colors created, and, by the light's direction. In cases like this I have a custom camera setting set up for HDR. I set that mode and the camera fires 5 exposures, 1 stop apart. In HDR software you will be able to bring out the shadows and tone down highlights without turning them grayish. I would like however, to see the original non processed image. |

Good composition of the arrangement and light source. I like the softness of the focus and contrast. I agree with Jody that exposure bracketing, maybe 5 shots, 1 stop each would be worth a try. You might also try focus stacking to get more of the flowers in focus if that is the effect you want. Sometimes, for shots like this, I use my camera's post focus feature which is quick and easy to use and to pick the focus points of the shot I want. |
