Jim, I think what you mean is that the eraser is like any brush-the pen tool is a Bezier curve, a vector tool. It does not modify pixels, it creates vector paths or shapes which can be converted to selections. It has nodes and handles which can be manipulated to follow an object outline, creating a perfect vector path with no bleed into the thing you're tracing. |

Hi, Jim.
I had to go into Photoshop to see what a Magic Eraser was, having never used that. For something with such a great combination of straight lines and sweeping curves, this is a perfect place to abandon the automatic selection stuff (even the normally great Quick Selection tool would need tweaking here) and use the Pen tool. Draw a path around the background, convert the path to a selection, create a mask and use a solid color adjustment layer (or any background of your choice.) |

Thank you. I am using this for something else, and I did remove the bird at the bottom. Also, when I zoom in on the original file, I counted at least 7 birds in the sky. I was amazed the lens picked them up... |

Thank you for your suggestions, Wanda.
I originally thought the bird at the bottom should be removed, then changed my mind, and now have gone back to believing that you're right.
As the attached raw file shows, I exposed for the brightest parts of the sky, knowing that it would be easier to bring up the darker areas than to try to mute overexposed highlights. I tried to keep the bright areas from blowing out without making the midtones too dark. Which would you build on to get more detail in the clouds?
Thank you for commenting.

Old hockey players never die, they just fade into the boards!! This old timer must've started playing before the sticks had curved blades. That's a face with some character. Great shot! |
